Deadseriousness 2021 NFL Preview: Philadelphia Eagles

philadelphia eagles

This year I’m going to write a 2021 preview for every NFL team. Or I’m going to write like, for 1 or 2 teams and forget and then all of a sudden it’s going to be opening night but either way, here’s my attempt.

Here’s my look at the 2021 Philadelphia Eagles:

2020 recap

Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles finished dead last in the NFC East with a 4-11 record after being projected by many to make the playoffs. Laugh out loud. The head coach was fired. The starting quarterback was driven to the airport on a one-way flight. Everyone and their mothers were injured. 2020 wasn’t greaaaaaaat.

Biggest storyline: Is Jalen Hurts an NFL starter?

In Jalen Hurts’s 2nd career start he threw 338 yards with 3 touchdowns and 63 rushing yards. He also only went 1-3 in his 4 starts and only completed 52% of his passes. His ceiling is Dak Prescott but his floor is the actual floor.

The good news, no matter how poorly he plays he will be astronomically better than Carson Wentz was last year. He wins 5 games and they’re going to put his statue up next to Nick Foles’s.

Biggest addition: Ryan Kerrigan(?)

As a Giants fan, I do not have the emotional strength to sit here and tell you that the Eagles biggest addition was drafting wide receiver, Devonta Smith, who the Giants very clearly wanted on their roster. Especially when you remember that Philly intentionally tanked Week 17 to land the 6th pick only to trade away the 6th pick only to trade back up to the 10th pick—one pick ahead of the Giants—just to take Smith. Fuck them.

Ryan Kerrigan is (was) good. Word.

Biggest offseason mistake: Nick Sirianni

I’m sure Nick Sirianni is fine or whatever but like, nah. Zero parts of me thinks this man will be the Eagles coach by the end of 2022.

Personally, I would’ve hired an adult and not this young boy playing rock, paper, scissors with draft prospects but what do I know?

Best case scenario: They stay healthy

Last season, the Eagles had the 2nd most adjusted games lost due to injury. Only TWO players who gained more than a yard on offense played all 16 games. That’s insane. Jason Kelce is the only offensive lineman who played all 16 games.

This could be a totally different team if Devonta Smith, who is coming off an injury suffered at Alabama, and the rest of this roster just heal and stay on the field. Him alongside Miles Sanders an Jalen Raegor could be a tough offense.

Worst case scenario: They just suck

Uh, this simply isn’t a very talented roster. Washington and Dallas just have better players on the roster. Jalen Hurts isn’t that great. The head coach isn’t inspiring anyone to run through a wall for him.

4 more wins coming right up.
