Balancing My Desire To Mock Any and All Jets Quarterbacks and My Undying Support of Every Black Quarterback

For the entirety of my life, the Jets have failed to put a great quarterback on the field. There’s something about putting on those vomit green jerseys that make it impossible to succeed. Chad Pennington was decent considering he had the arm strength of a snake. Brett Favre’s biggest moment in New York was randomly sending a dick pic to a female reporter completely unprovoked.

But 2021 is the golden age for Jets QBs. Rookie first round draft pick, Zach Wilson, is showing signs of true excellence. Look at this absolute ROCKET down the field.

Mark Sanchez was slinging it like that. At any point in his life. Never.

Wilson also leads the NFL with 8 interceptions in 4 games thus far but eh, he’s still a Jet after all.

Sammy Darnold is currently leading the first place Carolina Panthers. Admittedly, I thought the kid was a bust but with an actual smart game plan designed by professional coaches, Darnold is thriving in his role.

But this article is all about the return of Geno Smith who made a statement this week stepping in for the Seahawks after Russell Wilson tore a ligament in his middle finger, a finger that man has never raised in his entire life. This injury was inevitable.

Geno came onto the field with Seattle down 16-7 on their own 2-yard line with a quarter of ball left to play. No big deal. Geno completed all 5 of his pass attempts for 72 yards ending with a touchdown. He’d march the team down for a field goal but fell short of the full comeback after Tyler Lockett fell running his route and Geno threw a pick that was not his fault.

I can’t believe I’m defending the guy who took Eli Manning’s job in 2017 ending Eli’s historic consecutive starts streak solely because then Giants head coach, Ben McAdoo, wanted to prove some sort of point.

But I have no choice but to defend Geno Smith in a league where black quarterbacks don’t have the luxury of mediocrity.

Let’s go back to his time with the Giants. That offseason he signed a 1-year $1.2 million contract. That same Spring, Mike Glennon signed a 3-year $45 million deal with the Chicago Bears.

The year prior, Glennon threw 11 passes with the Bucs. Mike Glennon threw ELEVEN passes and signed a $45 million multi-year deal.

Shit, let’s look at Geno’s replacement that year. In 2017, the Jets signed Josh McCown and gave him a $6 million bag.

Just like we’ve come a long way for Jets QBs, we’ve come a long way with black quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, and Patrick Mahomes are faces of the league. And that’s all fine and good but we will never see true equality until black quarterbacks can stand on the sidelines holding clipboards or with their hands in their shoulder pads making undeserving millions and hoping the starting QB doesn’t get injured so they don’t have to jog out there and embarrass themselves.

Geno Smith isn’t good at his job. Or perhaps his time in Seattle behind Russell Wilson has helped his decision-making skills and he’s far better than he was during his time in New York.

But even if he reverts back to being a bum, you will see zero slander at Deadseriousness. Let black quarterbacks be average.
