AEW Desperately Needs To Sign Matt Riddle

aew matt riddle

Matt Riddle was once one of the biggest names in wrestling and has now found himself as a free agent thanks to WWE roster cuts and some bad press here and there.

AEW will always be looked at as the little brother in town until they start acquiring some big names like Riddle.

Dave Meltzer—a wrestling historian who has a newsletter documenting every wrestling event and dishes out arbitrary match ratings that internet nerds pretend are important so they have a reason to argue online with the only people in their lives who will listen to them talk about Manami Toyota vs. Aja Kong in 1994—also agrees about Riddle’s potential in All Elite Wrestling.

“Riddle’s role in his last few months with the company and Jon Moxley’s role, where he always lost, in his last few months were identical, although Riddle certainly has the baggage issue that Moxley didn’t have. But Moxley went from the same position to being one of AEW’s big three stars with Chris Jerico and Kenny Omega during the successful launch of the company”

Thank you, Dave. You are absolutely right.

Both Matt Riddle and Jon Moxley lost matches toward the end of their WWE runs therefore they were both destined to become stars in another company. T

hat’s all it takes to make it in AEW. You have to enter the building on a losing streak with your value at its lowest. This is a smart assessment that for sure makes sense.

But the more interesting part of this statement from Dave is comparing Riddle to Mox.

Jon Moxley went to rehab to recover from his alcoholism. I think Meltzer is attempting to say Matt Riddle has a similar addiction problem which is a very kind way to describe whatever the fuck is wrong with Riddle.

Jon Moxley had an internal struggle with substance abuse that had almost no effect on his performance or treatment of others. It wasn’t even something fans were privy to until he announced he’d be taking a break from TV.

Matt Riddle, on the other hand, has different problems. Like the line of women accusing him of abuse over the years including a woman he strangled and forced his little wee wee in.

We don’t ever need to go years back to see who Matt Riddle is. Earlier this month he accused a TSA agent of sexually assaulting him at the airport but in reality, he was just drunk as hell, screaming for attention and ruining everyone’s travel plans.

In December, Riddle was suspended 6 weeks for failing a drug test and the WWE doesn’t test for weed so my man was blowing big lines and cheating on his wife left and right.

But it’s his return from the suspension that Tony Khan and AEW should be focused on.

A return that saw him have the most forgettable, mediocre matches ever including a boring, bathroom break against Gunther for the Intercontinental title at Money in the Bank.

Outside of his narcissistic belief that women were put on this Earth exclusively to sleep with him, his constantly runny coke nose and his lackluster in-ring work, I see no real difference between Jon Moxley and Riddle.

AEW can build a company around a guy who so clearly doesn’t care if he lives or dies tomorrow. Historically, those are always the best people to have in your locker room.

The Rock was known for his constant preying on women in the independent circuit and wiping away crusty powder under his nose while his ex-wife routinely revealed what a miserable father and husband he was.

AEW just has to bring in Matt Riddle. Only positive things can happen.
