The New York Knicks are currently on a 6-game win streak, so it’s time for Deadseriousness to become insufferable. I will brag about this team like they’re the defending champions. Let’s start with much-deserved Quentin Grimes praise.
Here’s what Grimes has done over the course of this Knicks win streak:
- 13.5 points per game
- 27-for-53 (50%) shooting
- 16-for-35 (45%) from 3
- 4.8 rebounds
Quentin Grimes is the perfect modern NBA player. He is a reliable catch-and-shoot 3-point shooter. He can put the ball on the floor and not just attack the rim but has a phenomenal layup package (unlike RJ Barrett who misses every layup he takes). He moves the ball around the perimeter and makes quick decisions without holding the ball and waiting for things to happen.
His offensive skills are essential playing with guys like RJ and Julius Randle who swallow the entire shot clock and might chuck the ball to a teammate with a couple seconds left. Grimes is the perfect cat to sit on the 3-point line waiting for the late pass. He has a quick release and every shot he takes looks like it’s going to go in.
But Grimes’s biggest impact on this team is his defense.
Quentin Grimes is a special basketball player. Demar Derozan is the best in the business at taking advantage of low shot clock situations. Grimes didn’t fall for the shot fake and forced Demar to take an extra step. pic.twitter.com/yEX7acGRjA

The Knicks were absolute food for opponents prior to Tom Thibodeau throwing Grimes into the starting lineup. Evan Fournier and Derrick Rose just let everyone walk past them on the perimeter. Quentin Grimes and now Deuce McBride off the bench are monsters on-ball.
This 6-game win streak is 1000% thanks to Grimes’s effort on both ends of the floor. When you have a shutdown on-ball defender, it makes everyone else’s job easier. There are far fewer opportunities for Julius Randle to provide zero help defense and then yell at a teammate for a mistake he made and just completely kill the good vibes.
Shit, Julius Randle had 3 steals and a block against the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. That type of effort wasn’t happening until Grimes became the starting two guard.
They called me a madman for saying Quentin Grimes would have a better career than Donovan Mitchell. People were dunking on the Knicks for not including Grimes in a Donovan Mitchell trade and the Knicks currently have just 3 fewer losses than the Cleveland Cavaliers. Imagine how much better the Knicks record would be if Quentin Grimes was the starter from day one.
All Quentin Grimes needs is an experienced dermatologist and he’d be on billboards all over Manhattan. There is no one more valuable than Quentin Grimes right now except maybe like, Nikola Jokic or whatever.
