Yankees Ace Cam Schlittler is having one of the best pitching seasons ever. On Sunday, another quality start, duh, 6 scoreless innings, 1 hit, 2 walks and 8 Ks, Yankees win 2-0 over the New York Mets to win the 9/11 Subway Series. The Yankees won. #NeverForget.
With two weeks left in the season, Schlittler’s ERA falls to 1.95, tied with Milwaukee Brewers 101mph machine Jacob Misiorowski for the best in baseball. Schlittler’s also leads all pitchers in innings pitched, ERA+ and WHIP.
He’s objectively better than Dylan Cease, his AL Cy Young competition up in Toronto doing his thing. With Aaron Judge spending this season wincing in pain, reaching for his ribs, in street clothes most of the summer while the Yankees offense routinely hit balls directly into the awaiting gloves of the defense, Cam Schlittler’s dominance every 5 days kept New York alive until the captain’s return last week.

Schlittler’s 7.1 WAR leads the American League, better than Yordan Alvarez and Bobby Witt Jr.
It’s worth maybe wondering if Schlitter deserves MVP votes, his domination transcends the mound, the case for the best player in the AL can be made.
Well, not everyone thinks that convo is worth having, including 3-time AL MVP and Schlittler’s teammate, Aaron Judge, who wanted to make it extremely clear how he feels about a pitcher winning the MVP.
“He’s definitely pitching like an MVP, but they’ve got a Cy Young Award for a reason: best pitcher in the game. He’s got my vote, definitely, for the Cy Young,” Judge said (via MLB.com).
As charming as he tried to be, Aaron Judge was accidentally honest, telling reporters he doesn’t want his teammate to win the MVP award.
Yankees fans and the lazy radio hosts who prey on their insecurities have blown this quote out of proportion, convincing themselves Judge is now a villain or bad coworker. I’ve had bad coworkers—they mostly didn’t shower and played J. Cole through their phone speakers all shift. Judge seems cool to me.
Personally, I love Aaron Judge declaring to all future voters he wants MVPs, and most importantly, he doesn’t want to lose MVP votes to pitchers who have their own award.
This should be the Aaron Judge era but Judge is uniquely sharing this time with a cyborg created in a top-secret Japanese lab to slug and pitch—Judge’s success diminished by this sicko winning back-to-back World Series championships, including a Dodgers/Yankees series where Shohei Ohtani outplayed Judge.
There is no player more deserving of the grace to say, “Hey man, I’m the best hitter and I’d like to keep winning the best hitter award, please don’t give my best hitter award to a pitcher. Maybe the best pitcher can just win the best pitcher award. Please.”
Congrats to Cam Schlittler for his inevitable Cy Young award and congrats to Aaron Judge for reinforcing the separation of church and state, a lost cause in this decaying land.
