Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte landed on the restricted list after flying with the team for their series against the Boston Red Sox but never arriving at Fenway Park for the game.

Set for the DH position, a late, last-second scratch for the newly acquired Lars Nootbar—who kinda sucks, batting .162 with a 63 OPS+ in 12 games—smashed a 2-run homer against Boston in that series Ketel Marte no-called no-showed though.

The team, in confusion, announced Marte was battling some “personal issue”, while looking around nervously, no idea what’s going on with their second baseman.

Arizona is a game behind their division rival, San Diego, for the final NL Wild Card spot. They need all hands on deck.

Now, the Diamondbacks are moving Ketel from the restricted list to the 10-Day IL, Marte apparently suffering hamstring inflammation and a knee injury but will be back with the team when the 10 days are over.

Here’s a statement from Marte’s agent:

“He is currently managing a personal matter and will be undergoing an MRI on his knee (Thursday). Ketel appreciates the unwavering support from fans, teammates, the Diamondbacks organization and Torey Lovullo during this time. He remains optimistic about his recovery and looks forward to returning to the field to contribute to the team as soon as possible.”

It sounds like, from everything I gather, Ketel Marte showed up to Boston, his leg was screaming, he got tight and didn’t show up to work. I imagine it’s frustrating for a professional athlete to lose function in their body. I have a bad back, I can still type—I probably won’t, day spent complaining to anyone who’ll listen, scrolling—an MLB player hurts his hammy and that could be the end of a season.

Having no-called, no-showed plenty, often, kinda my thing, good for Ketel. He has a full no-trade clause and he’s using every power he has as an employee over his boss.

That being said, maybe shoot a text next time or you’ll be here at Deadseriousness HQ with ya boy writing jokes all day for significantly fewer dollars.

Don’t ever be like. It sucks.
