On Sunday afternoon, the Yankees best player, in a game where if the team lost, their season would spiral out of control, decided to be the best player on the team.

The New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-3 in 10 innings, to avoid the sweep, thanks to Ben Rice’s first hit of the series, a 2-run homer in the top of the 10th.

Ben Rice was the objectve worst hitter of August heading into Sunday. 4-for-41, batting .098 with just 1 homer.

First-half MVP candidate, Ben Rice achieving his full potential, the Aaron Judge slugging partner Giancarlo Stanton was never healthy or consistent enough to become, Rice and Yordan Alvarez atop the OPS boards, every swing raining doubles and homers, extra base hits to the vein, daily.

Tapped out.

Joining Jazz Chisholm, Austin Wells, Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon in a team-wide slump, the vibes abysmal, Yankees offense the worst since Judge hit the IL, non-existent, Ben Rice and the boys clocking in, clocking out, MLB-best ERA stretching them to the finish line.

Ben Rice was dogshit against the Blue Jays before the bomb. Hitless all series and a brutal error, groundball off his mitt, leading to the extra innings.

Reports say Cody Bellinger will be back in Pinstripes for their weekend series, once again against a revamped, serious Blue Jays team.

The AL Wild Card isn’t a game anymore. Both the Blue Jays and now the Baltimore Orioles are storming the castle doors. The Mariners are opening their eyes, stretching, yawning, ready to turn up this September.

Hopefully, Ben Rice is activated, returning to MVP form, allowing Yankees pitchers or defenders a mistake without the game collapsing on top of them.
