The Minnesota Vikings house two quarterbacks. One, a former No. 1 pick who flicks a ball 90 yards down the field with ease, tiny and hurt, sure, but the arm flex mighty. The other, literally the worst quarterback of 2026. Shockingly, it appears Minnesota will be selecting the former as their QB1.
JJ McCarthy led the NFL in interception percentage.
The worst completion percentage, 32nd in success percentage (only rookie Cam Ward worse), 3rd in sack percentage, getting crushed by edge rushers, 30th in QBR, the worst quarterback rating, 31st in yards per game.
Kyler Murray could’ve lost his eye in a jetski accident the night he inked the Vikings contract, he was always going to be the starting quarterback.
His 2025 season ended by a foot injury followed by a quiet benching. Murray healed but had to hold Jacoby Brissett’s luggage, lost his job to an injury, fired on his day off.
A 1-year, $1.3m deal, a chance to rehab his career throwing to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, under a coaching staff two years removed from turning Sam Darnold from the ghost whisperer to Super Bowl champion.
All he’s got to do is put down those gosh dang vidya-games.
What’s next for JJ McCarthy?
JJ McCarthy was bad at football. He’s younger than Cam Ward and no one believes Ward’s career is over after an unimpressive, unremarkable rookie campaign of no note. JJ will be fine.
McCarthy was third in intended air yards per attempt, meaning my boy was chucking that ball down the field. Explaining his low completion percentage and interceptions. He missed a lot of those throws, unfortunately. But I’d rather a young QB fearless than a checkdown coward.
Plus, he’s a white guy with a firm handshake from a college many executives and media members attended. He’ll be in the NFL as long as he desires.
