I’ve watched every Yankees game this season and have yet to write a single post-game recap.
Time to beat the washed allegations.
Tuesday night, New York hosted the Sacramento Athletics for their first series against one of the worst clubs in the Majors.
Yankees won 5-3, advancing to 8-2, boosting their AL East lead while Toronto and Boston appear surprised the season started.
Here are a few quick takeaways from the game:
Who is the Trent Grisham replacement?
The Yankees can’t have a lead-off batting .147. Trent Grisham’s been held hitless in 6 of the Yankees 10 games. An automatic out at the top of the order. Grisham’s been studying Jacoby Ellsbury’s game tape.
Signing a 1-year “prove it” deal in the offseason, Grisham is not long for this world.
It’s early April but I think we all see where this is going.
So who should take over his outfield spot?
Or the better, more specific question: Spencer Jones or Jasson Dominguez
Spencer Jones, the 2022 first-round pick who crushed 35 home runs on the farm last year. (

Spencer Jones struck out in 35.4% of his plate appearances.
No qualified major leaguer struck out at a higher rate than 32.3% in 2025.
In 8 games in AAA this season, Spencer Jones has 2 homers—but he’s already struck out 19, most in the league.
Jasson Dominguez, the former teenage prodigy, the Yankees top prospect since his 2019 international signing.
Dominguez had a weird 2025, finishing with a 103 wRC+ and 23 stolen bags but he only hit 10 homers in 123 games.
Dominguez’s glove made Jalen Brunson look like a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
His minus-7 Defensive Runs Saved and minus-10 Outs Above Average, bottom-feeding.
So either the Yankees call up young Joey Gallo or they call up a guy who is active on the bases but afraid of the ball in the outfield.
That “BREAKING: Yankees trade for Mike Trout” from Jeff Passon is gonna hit like an NFL coach running into Dianna Russini at the hotel bar.
Mark Leiter Jr. sucks
Mark Leiter Jr. claimed the Yankees “ruined” him, exclusively using him in low-leverage opportunities.
So naturally, in a high-leverage moment against the Yankees, Mark Leiter Jr. blew the game, throwing a beach ball down the middle of the plate for a 3-run, go-ahead homer by backup infielder Amed Rosario.

You can only blame your ex for so long.
At some point, you are the reason everything sucks for you.
Cam Schlitter is human
Probably not a magical Cam Schlitter season…
After looking like he was visited by the baseball gods, awarded their gifts—it appears it was just a rental.
5 hits, 3 earned runs.
Mortal.
Still sporting a 1.62 ERA. 7 Ks to 0 BBs on the night.
Cy Young votes still incoming.
But for a second, I thought the Yankees fucked around and created a Randy Johnson.
