We are over a decade removed from the dominance of the ACC in college basketball but despite the fall from the mountain top, division is still talented and relevant enough for a head coach to be fired if their team finishes in last place. With an 11-20 record, 2-16 in conference, and losers of 12 consecutive games, Georgia Tech is firing head coach Damon Stoudamire.

A statement from first-year AD, Ryan Alpert:
“On behalf of Georgia Tech, I want to thank Damon for his commitment to the Institute, our men’s basketball program and, most importantly, our student-athletes. He is highly respected and admired throughout the Georgia Tech community and has been a strong representative of the Institute. We wish him the very best.”
Damon Stoudamire, the 1999 NBA Rookie of the Year—beating 19-year-old Kevin Garnett fresh out of high school and 31-year old Arvydas Sabonis fresh out of Yugoslavian civil war—hired by Georgia Tech in 2023 after 7 uneventful seasons with previous head coach, Josh Pastner, who left the program with a 49% win percentage. Textbook definition of below average.
Stoudamire won 43% of his games. The ball club is now worse having met him. Outside of one singular upset win over no. 7 ranked Duke in his first season at Tech, 3 whole ass years ago, Damon didn’t do shit. And now, on his way out, Georgia Tech is the worst team in the ACC.
