For some reason, people are interviewing Carolina Panthers sometimes quarterback, Sam Darnold and for some reason, Darnold has a lot to say for a guy who has thrown only 18 touchdowns to 24 interceptions the last two seasons.
Here’s some cute quotes Darnold gave in this interview:
“I have enough security in myself where I can say, ‘I know I’m a good quarterback. I know I can be a good quarterback in this league. I’ve proved it.’
Now, a lot of people will read this quote and mock Darnold for saying that he’s ‘proved’ something in this league considering every game he starts ends with fans begging to fire his head coach. But the real comedy in this quote is Darnold calling himself a ‘good’ quarterback. Just an interestingly low bar. He’s not saying he’s great or a winner. He’s simply saying he’s good enough to continue receiving NFL paychecks.
Here is one of my favorite quotes from this podcast interview:
“The part that pisses me is off is when people judge my game, like how I’m playing,” he said. “Then I’m like, ‘Go strap it up.’ I’m [like], ‘You’re a fan and I respect you as a fan. You can talk all the s— you want, I’m not going to do anything at the end of the day, but take it easy.’
“What if I was like, ‘The house you just worked on, piece of s—. You’re so bad at tiling. You should really go get another job. Really think about your profession.’ Sometimes you want to say stuff like that, but you can’t.”
Fans probably say wild shit to him and I’m sure that sucks but there’s something hilarious about him believing telling someone they suck at their job is like, the worst thing you can do to another human. He didn’t even necessarily say that fans take it too far. He was just upset that he gets criticized at all.
If you go to a restaurant and the food is bitter, you can absolutely tell the chef he sucks. If I build a house and I’m bad at tiling, you can tell me I’m bad at tiling. Want to know why? Because I’m bad a tiling.
Sam Darnold isn’t very good at throwing footballs. You can tell him he isn’t good at throwing footballs because it’s literally the truth. The Carolina Panthers were ready to trade for a quarterback who they cannot leave alone with their daughters. A guy who will be missing practices because he’s in court every day gaslighting his victims is more valuable to the Panthers than Sam Darnold. Yike.
Darnold ranked 29th last season in yards per attempt ahead of only Zach Wilson, Ben Roethlisberger and Trevor Lawrence. It’s tough to say the Jets ‘made a mistake’ replacing you with Zach Wilson when you have almost identical numbers with your rookie replacement.
Remember when we thought the 2018 NFL Draft was stacked with QBs and 4 seasons later, Josh Rosen is out of the league while Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold will be joining him at the local Amazon warehouse for the third shift.
