So far in this life, I’ve been blessed with never having to “batten down the hatches.” Never have I ever had to fight for my life, against the eye of death, with comrades to my left and right, all trying to survive another sunrise.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have run their organization in constant emergency mode, air raid sirens blaring through the clubhouse, all hands on deck, but the Dodgers batten down the hatches with the best, most talented hatch batten-downers.
As they continue acquiring talent like the world is about to end, each World Series championship could be their last, LA adds another All-Star to their doom prep
The Los Angeles Dodgers got the best closer on the free agent market Tuesday, reaching a three-year, $69 million deal with former New York Mets reliever Edwin Diaz, sources told ESPN‘s Jeff Passan and Jorge Castillo on Tuesday.
After winning the title, the Dodgers now add 3-time All-Star closer Edwin Diaz, coming off a 1.63 ERA season, converting 28 of 31 save attempts and finishing last season with the greatest strikeout rate of his career (98Ks in 66 innings).
Despite back-to-back championships, the Dodgers have won without a 9th-inning closer they trust since Kenley Jansen left after the 2021 season.
And shout out to all the Jansen replacements, Evan Phillips, Michael Kopech, Blake Treinen, Daniel Hudson, even Craig fucking Kimbrel.
Last year, Tanner Scott was brought in for 4 years, $72 million, to headline the show. He robbed them. The 2024 All-Star in San Diego moved up the freeway, posted a 4.74 ERA with a -0.5 WAR, blew his elbow and missed playoff games because he needed his butt drained.
Fortunately, the Dodgers have Shohei Ohtani singlehandedly winning games, Freddie Freeman and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, his overqualified trusty sidekicks.
Edwin Diaz is arriving, off one of his best seasons, not a single butt infection reported.
Meanwhile, the New York Mets have lost Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso, two of their most talented players, within days of each other. The Dodgers won a World Series and became objectively better. The Mets suffered a historic collapse and look objectively worse on paper.
Steve Cohen purchased the Mets with the intentions of buying championship rings and the Los Angeles Dodgers are hoarding all the great players away from him. He might as well refocuse his attention on making sure civilians aren’t making a single dime from the stock market.
The Dodgers are building rosters like they don’t think another baseball season is coming later.
Deferred contracts, stacking guys who all play the same position. LA is running their organization like the world is coming to an end. It’s a coin flip at this point whether Aaron Judge is wearing a Dodgers kit by Spring Training.
