This Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams traveled to New York and destroyed the Giants 38-11. The two teams looked like they shouldn’t have even been on the field together. The Giants looked like Bishop Sycamore getting ragdolled by those high school kids.
When you watch these two teams play, it’s impossible to not take note of the ways in which these teams were built. One team is constantly improving and acquiring the best talent available and the other team is in a perpetual rebuild that has no end date in sight.
The Rams GM, Les Snead, and the Giants GM, Dave Gettleman, have totally different mindsets when it comes to teambuilding.
In 2017, Todd Gurley won the Offensive Player of the Year. He was the best running back in the NFL. The following year, his knee turned to dust. Oh, they also made the Super Bowl with him limping around and with Jared Goff throwing interceptions left and right.
A bad GM, like Dave Gettleman, would be a stupid narcissist refusing to pivot. He’d give Todd Gurley and Jared Goff lifetime contracts despite Gurley’s injuries and Goff’s inability to read a defense.
Sure, the Rams gave Gurley a massive contract but they still cut him two years ago knowing that the star running back could no longer contribute to winning football games. Yes, the Rams gave Jared Goff the biggest contract in the league but they still traded him for Matty Stafford.
What would the Giants look like if Les Snead was the GM? Would injnury-prone Saquon Barkley still be here? Would Daniel Jones still be fumbling all over the field if an actual good GM was in charge?
The Giants are stuck with Saquon and DJ because Dave Gettleman drafted them and he refuses to adjust from his mistakes. His project failed and for some reason he’s still in charge.
Les Snead would never trade Odell Beckham for a right guard only to cut that right guard a year later to save cap money. Good teams don’t give a shit about the cap. The Rams had no cap space yet still managed to trade for Jalen Ramsey and pay him top dollar.
Sunday afternoon’s matchup was truly an all-star team vs. 53 guys who have never watched football before.
Fire Dave Gettleman….into the sun.
