7 NBA Teams That Should Blow It Up The Second The Season Ends

blow it up

There comes a time in every organization’s lifespan when it’s time to simply blow it up. Teams that believed they had a chance to succeed only to realize their roster was flawed or teams that are too stubborn to completely restart from scratch. Blowing it up is your best chance at bringing in some draft capital that could result in a far more talented star than is currently on your team’s roster.

Here are 7 teams that need to blow it up as soon as possible:

1. Atlanta Hawks

trae young

The Atlanta Hawks went to the Eastern Conference Finals 2 years ago and everyone thought they were going to be a new dynasty when in actuality, they beat a Knicks team led by Elfrid fucking Payton and a Sixers team led by a guy who recorded the lowest free throw percentage in postseason history and appeared genuinely terrified at the idea of being an NBA player.

Turns out, Trae Young isn’t that great and none of their young players developed. Quin Snyder deserves to coach a basketball team full of guys who aren’t dedicated to taking the most difficult shots possible. This team is obsessed with contested jumpers and chucking it from the logo.

I also lowkey think Trae Young is a difficult and weird dude to work with so part of the blowing it up involves moving on from the guy who was supposed to be the next Steph Curry but is just light skin, balding Kemba Walker.

Blow it up.

2. Washington Wizards

The Wizards decided to build their team around Bradley Beal—who is like, the 33rd-best player in the NBA. He’s set to turn 30 this summer and has only made the playoffs once since John Wall left in 2018. The Wizards lost that one playoff appearance, of course.

Deni Avdija and Corey Kispert were huge whiffs in the draft. Kristaps Porzingis is a BEAST in the first quarter and gradually vanishes as the game progresses. Kyle Kuzma is the only real asset on this team that could genuinely help a title contender.

The Wizards should’ve spent this season battling with the Pistons and Rockets for the first pick but instead, they are fighting for the chance to be swept by the Milwaukee Bucks. The Wizards should quite literally trade everyone and start next season with 15 new players. Pretend this season didn’t even happen.

3. Miami Heat

Jimmy Butler is 33 and has the knees of a 90-year old veteran who was a prisoner of war. Butler’s got those John McCain joints. He is still capable of taking total control of a basketball game on both ends of the floor but then he’ll need to spend the next 48 hours in an ice bath with IVs in his arm to recover.

Bam Adebayo is having the best season of his career. Tyler Herro can score 30 whenever he decides to. And they are currently behind the Brooklyn Nets—a team that traded all their stars away for draft picks and interns and still employs Ben Simmons.

I know Pat Riley always wants to keep a competitive team and Heat Culture and blah blah

4. Portland Trailblazers

For the past month, Damian Lillard has been on a strange press tour getting the message out there that winning basketball games isn’t the most important thing in his life and that’s cool. It’s crucial to keep a healthy work/life balance or whatever but it’s odd as hell when one of the best basketball players we’ve ever seen is currently leading a team that’s 9 games below .500 and has no sense of urgency or desire to sneak into the play-in game.

The Blazers have Cam Reddish AND Kevin Knox on their roster right now. You can’t have 2 guys who weren’t good enough to play for the Knicks in your facility. Just biiiiiiiig loser energy from this franchise.

Shaedon Sharpe is the only player on this roster worth investing in. The former no. 7 overall pick, Sharpe is 19 years old and looks capable of turning into a consistent NBA starter. Congrats to Anfernee Simmons for tricking Portland into giving him all that cash. Scammers Hall of Fame inductee.

5. Minnesota Timberwolves

Shockingly, trading every asset you have for a guy whose only skill is being large hasn’t resulted in success for the Timberwolves. Everyone not named Anthony Edwards should talk to their landlords about their leases because everyone should be cut as soon as the NBA season ends.

Karl-Anthony Towns was injured for the entire season and no one even cared. The supposed ‘star’ of the team has only played 23 games this year and it’s the least important news in the world. Kyrie Irving shows up to practice late and there are a million think pieces about him but KAT misses a year of his prime and the entire NBA world just forgot he existed.

Blow it up.

6. Toronto Raptors

Everyone in the NBA media spent the entire trade deadline telling us how desperately teams wanted every single player on the Toronto Raptors yet somehow when all of these desirable guys play together on the same team, they stink. Hm.

If teams are throwing first round picks at OG Annouby, Fred Van Vleet and Paskal Siakam then Toronto should, uh, take those picks.

Blow it up.

7. Golden State Warriors

draymond green

It’s never a great sign when the success of your season hinges upon the mental health of Andrew Wiggins. It’s also never a good sign when you have only 9 wins on the road. And you know what’s another bad sign? When players are punching their teammates in the face at practice.

It’s over for the Warriors. Steph Curry is still a top 5 player in the league and it doesn’t even matter. They tried to be cute and develop their young core while simultaneously being competitive but people always seem to forget that it doesn’t matter how many draft picks you have if you’re not good at drafting players. They should’ve traded the James Wiseman pick for an established talent who wouldn’t have been a literal teenager.

Get Draymond Green and these bums away from Steph.

Blow it up.
