5 MLB Teams That Are Going To Be Way Worse in 2024

worse mlb teams 2024

Every year, teams exceed their preseason expecations but what’s funnier is when a team falls off a cliff and forgets how to play baseball.

Here are 5 MLB teams that are going to be wayyyy worse in 2024:

1. Boston Red Sox

rafael devers

Recently, the longest-tenured Red Sox star, Rafael Devers, called out the front office for not doing enough in the offseason to truly compete this season and I am shocked Devers isn’t excited to bring in Tyler O’Neil from St. Louis and his 27 runs scored.

Their big acquisition was Lucas Giolito, a 2019 All-Star and a guy with a no-hitter under his belt. Unfortunately, all of that was 5 whole ass years ago and Giolito is coming off a 2023 campaign where he played for the White Sox, Angels AND Guardians. I

f you’re a glass half full guy, then you can tell yourself 3 teams wanted him. If you live in reality, then you know 3 teams didn’t want him.

Boston did. Because no one else on their team is good at pitching.

I’d feel bad for Devers but he watched this team trade away Mookie Betts and block Xander Bogaerts’s number when he hit free agency. What in the world made Devers believe this team was trying to compete for championships?

2. Washington Nationals

The Nationals sucked last season and still stumbled into 71 games thanks to a weak August schedule where they were able to steal easy wins from the Reds, the Marlins, the Red Sox. the A’s and a Yankees team that was inexplicably relying on Harrison fucking Bader to carry them to victories.

Washington’s biggest offseason addition is Joey Gallo. Last season, Gallo had 40 RBIs and 142 STRIKEOUTS with the Twins. When you get the opportunity to build your lineup around a guy who never hits the ball in play, you just have to take it.

3. Milwaukee Brewers

Last season, the Brewers snuck into the playoffs only to lose 0-2 in the Wild Card against the Diamondbacks. Milwaukee decided to build on that success by trading away Corbin Burnes, the best player on the team, to the Baltimore Orioles.

I’m a firm believer that if you’re not always looking to improve your roster, you are actively getting worse. It makes no sense to sign Rhys Hoskins and Gary Sanchez while not bringing back Julio Teherán and relying on 37-year-old Wade Miley to consistently perform at a high level at his big age.

These lateral moves are bullshit and Milwaukee is going to fall off a cliff.

4. Los Angeles Angels

anthony rendon

Okay sooooo, the Angels season is starting with Anthony Rendon letting it known how much he hates baseball and coming into work which is great for a guy making a quarter billion and has a crazy contract growing their payroll and preventing them from improving the roster.

Oh, they also lost the greatest baseball player of his generation to the Dodgers. The Angels couldn’t win games WITH Shohei Ohtani so I’m not super confident in Brandon Drury stepping in at DH and competing for an MVP trophy.

5. Oakland Athletics

I know the A’s only won 50 games and were objectively the worst team in baseball last season but I get the feeling they are about to get even worse. It’s never great for your team when every story about them uses the old batting helmet resting on a catcher’s mitt generic stock image.

Oakland ownership is clearly bidding their time until they can move to Las Vegas in a few years and it does not behoove them to have a bloated payroll, or any real payroll at all, prior to arriving. This team is a bunch of AA guys out there getting thumped nightly. On the positive side, these players get an opportunity to show the other 29 teams they are deserving of a safety raft to a real, professional organization.

But this team would be lucky to win 50 games this season. We are about to see the worst baseball team in the history of history.
