Who Cares if the Knicks Tampered to Get Jalen Brunson?

It is being reported that the NBA will be investigating the New York Knicks for tampering and finalizing a deal with Jalen Brunson prior to the beginning of the free agency window.

But who cares if the Knicks tampered for Jalen Brunson?

The entire premise of tampering in the NBA makes absolutely no sense because it implies that these professional athletes are blank canvases incapable of making their own decisions and they are somehow being coerced behind the scenes to sign with a team when in actuality, most players know exactly where they want to play next season before the current season even ends and they aren’t sitting in empty rooms all summer waiting until midnight July 1st to have their first contact with NBA GMs.
Every single NBA team tampers. The second free agency ‘officially’ begins, Woj and Shams tweet all day long about not only which players are signing to which teams but full financial details of contracts that were negotiated weeks, if not months, in advance.
Jalen Brunson averaged 16 points last season and the Knicks finished 37-45. What are we doing here? The NBA is shining a lot of light on a meaningless signing for no discernable reason. Brunson’s 16 points a game isn’t going to suddenly propel the Knicks to the no. 1 seed in the East. It’s truly insane how frequently this signing has been discussed despite its overall irrelevance in the greater NBA landscape.
Knicks team president, Leon Rose, is the former head of CAA talent agency. His first ever client was Jalen Brunson’s father, Rick (who is currently an assistant coach for the Knicks). Jalen Brunson’s current agent is Leon Rose’s son. This isn’t tampering. This has been the plan since like, 1999. Sorry to the Dallas Mavericks for not getting a meeting with Jalen or whatever but yea, the Knicks are run by all of Brunson’s friends and family. There was no reason to believe he was going to sign anywhere else.

The Knicks didn’t tamper because tampering doesn’t exist and if it does exist, it doesn’t matter. It’s August 1st and the NBA office is bored. Everyone carry on with your lives. Nothing to see here. I’ll see everyone at the Knicks championship parade this summer.
