What To Do When Your New Head Coach is Racist

JJ Redick has managed to become the star of the NBA offseason and while typically, I’d complain about how often we’ve talked about JJ, it’s far better than the alternative: thinking about the Celtics championship. Ew.

However, this new JJ Redick story may somehow be worse than the Celtics winning the title.

A woman posted a Tweet claiming JJ called her the n-word to her face back in his old Duke days.

Notttttt a great look for the Lakers to hire a bigot. TMZ’s reported JJ Redick denying this ever happening so let’s start with that.

Did JJ Redick call this woman the n-word?

Probably. JJ has been open about being kind of a dickhead in college. If you went to school with drunk, white teenagers, this story isn’t surprising. No one feels more invisible than a white 19-year-old boy with access to a keg and their parent’s credit card.

JJ has a history of weird, foul shit. Like during his rookie year in Orlando, he got a girl pregnant and then made her sign a contract. She would get an abortion and in exchange, JJ would publicly claim her on social media for a year. Really one-sided deal here.

Redick denied this, much like he denied calling homegirl the n-word.

This is also the same JJ Redick who donated $150,000 to a preschool in Brooklyn so his wife, who was cozying up to the director, could maintain power and help keep the school, uh, looking like the Redicks, if you know what I mean.

Does anyone else remember when JJ did that promotional video for Lunar New Year and ‘accidentally’ used an Asian slur?

Anyway, yea, JJ 1000% called that woman the n-word.

How should JJ Redick be punished?

Unfortunately, I do not believe this 40-year-old man should lose his job because he was an asshole in college. He is not the only scumbag drawing up plays during timeouts. Jason Kidd and Chauncey Billups used to be WILD boys. As you read this, there’s a good chance Ime Udoka is sleeping with a Rockets employee.

I’ve listened to enough JJ podcasts to get a grasp on the type of guy he is. He’s more of a Steph Curry “not in my backyard” type of rich asshole than a Steve Bannon let’s build a wall type.

Phil Jackson won 610 games with the Lakers and I’m fairly certain he’s the type of guy who wipes his hands on his shirt after shaking a black person’s hand.

This will not affect JJ’s ability to coach the Lakers. If anything, it puts another chip on the shoulder of a sicko who eats, sleeps and breathes basketball.

If the Lakers win a championship this season, thank Halleemah Nash for putting the battery in JJ’s back and giving him the hater he needed to focus on to succeed.

Let’s just hope he can keep his hands to himself and his slurs in his head and he doesn’t try to keep brown kids out of his school district going forward. Prayer hands.
