Sha’Carri Richardson was the biggest star going into the Tokyo Olympics this summer. She was a fresh face with a shitload of personality and the talent to run circles around all of her opponents on the track.
She was winning the preliminary trials by full body lengths going as far as celebrating way before she even crossed the finish line. She won a race and immediately jumped into the stands to celebrate with her grandmother.
Americans had every reason to love this new star.
Andddd then she tested positive for marijuana and everyone turned into cops.
I’ve never in my life seen and heard so many lazy racist ring-wing takes about weed from people who would probably describe themselves as liberals or whatever.
The most popular reaction to Sha’Carri smoking weed and being kicked off the Olympic team was that she knew the rules and chose to break them so she should suffer the appropriate consequences.
The fuck?
There are so many reasons why everyone should be able to smoke weed whenever they want yet there was an almost universal understanding that although weed is legal in many states and countries across the world, the Olympics are some bigger, more exceptional purpose therefore, the rules are more serious.
I didn’t hear anyone say anything about how completely absurd it is that weed is considered a ‘performance-enhancing drug’ but here is Fox Sports analyst, Emmanuel Acho, attempting to explain how weed is performance-enhancing.
We’re looking at “performance enhancing drugs” the wrong way..
They don’t just make you better. They can also keep you from getting worse. pic.twitter.com/rbFF7fogeX

For those that don’t know, Emmanuel Acho is a former NFL linebacker turned grifter who made a name for himself with his wack ass internet show titled Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man.
The show tricks people into thinking the way to fix racism is through ‘uncomfortable’ conversations and not, hm let’s say, actual policy changes and massive structure overhauls of the systems that benefit and thrive from prejudice and racism.
What I’m saying is, Acho has made a career in holding white people’s hands and making them feel better about their terrible opinions so it’s no surprise that he came up with this bullshit excuse to appease his white audience.
“Weed does enhance performance but it takes away nerves”. Ok.
But we can talk about Acho in depth some other time. The reason I bring up this atrocious clip is to inform people that weed is not a performance-enhancing drug. The reason it’s against the Olympic rules is because of their own superiority complex.
These sports organizations make a bajillion dollars off brown people’s hard work. Stars are marketed to help grow the bottom line but these stars don’t often look like the white executives in the board rooms of these organizations.
The banning of recreational drugs has almost nothing to do with their side effects and everything to do with controlling the faces of your cash-generating league. White execs can maintain some moral high ground while simultaneously holding brown athletes to some standard that the execs don’t even live up to.
People smoke weed and chill.
It’s not some evil gateway drug that makes people turn into homeless heroin addicts and dangerous criminals. You smoke weed and binge-watch TV. You don’t run faster or jump higher or like, hit people. You just chill.
So whenever and their mothers are disappointed with Sha’Carri Richardson for breaking the rules, perhaps they should instead be angry at the Olympics for their shitty rule. We should all be pointing our rage at the Olympics and apply pressure on them to change their nonsensical rules.
Nope. Everyone turned into strange bootlicking losers that just love rules and rules must never be broken and we love kissing cops on the mouth.
Sha’Carri Richardson should be running at the Olympics this year and she can’t because of some faux-moral dilemma and the need to control brown people’s off-field activities.
