In 2020, the Detroit Pistons hired Troy Weaver as their GM. Since then, the Pistons have a 70-229 record, the worst record among any NBA team during these 4 years. This season, Detroit suffered a 28-game losing streak, a new NBA record.
It’s not a hot take to declare Troy Weaver sucks at his job. You’d think Weaver would expect Piston’s fans to be disappointed in his work but over the weekend, Weaver got into it with a fan and kicked him out of a game for simply letting Troy know he sucks.
Troy Weaver got INTO it with a heckling fan at LCA.
Troy: “You’re lucky I don’t beat your ass.”
The fan was kicked out.

Obviously, no one would want someone to come to their place of work and tell them they suck at their job, however, I have a solution for Troy Weaver: stop sucking at your job.
If you don’t want fans to heckle you then don’t draft Killian Hayes with the no. 7 overall pick while Tyrese Maxey and Tyrese Haliburton are still on the board. The Tyrese’s both made All-Star teams this season and they’re battling each other to win the Most Improved Award. Killian Hayes was cut in early February and no other team called his phone.
What other terrible decision has Troy Weaver made?
On 2020 draft day, the Pistons traded Luke Kennard and Bruce Brown for 4 2nd round picks and the 19th overall pick who ended up being Saddiq Bey, who they would later trade for James Wiseman, who is objectively one of the worst players in the NBA.
When you get the chance to trade a guy like Bruce Brown—who has proven to be a crucial engine capable of operating your bench lineup—you have to trade him for a guy who will be working at Foot Locker by 2025.
But the worst move of them all might be the hiring of Monty Williams. Over the summer, Detroit made Monty Williams the highest-paid coach in the NBA. Making the NBA Finals with Chris Paul and Devin Booker is a completely different skill set than building a program from the ground up and developing young talent.
The Suns team that went to the Finals beat a Nuggets team without Jamal Murray and a Clippers team without Kawhi Leonard. Do with that information what you want.
By making Monty the highest-paid guy for a team in the midst of a rebuild, you are essentially creating a monster. Especially when the guy already had a very public beef with one of his own players. He was not shy about his hate for DeAndre Ayton, a young player whom Monty should’ve been attempting to develop.
Monty knows he can’t be fired because of his enormous salary so he’s out here doing whatever he wants. His lineups don’t make sense. He refuses to play younger players even though he lost 28 straight games and there’s no reason to pretend as if Alec Burks deserved more playing time than Ausar Thompson.
Detroit Piston fans should be lining up in front of the arena to take turns slapping the taste out of Troy Weaver’s mouth.
