Paul Skenes Records 9 Strikeouts and Handcuff Shohei Ohtani in Pirates Victory Over Dodgers

Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher, Paul Skenes, put on a show Friday night, recording 9 Ks and leaving Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts hitless.

The Pittsburgh Pirates took a 3-0 victory off the Los Angeles Dodgers last night thanks to the domination of the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, Paul Skenes—who had Dodgers hitters considering career changes.

Here’s what Skenes did against the Dodgers:

  • 6.1 innings pitched
  • 9 Ks
  • 5 hits
  • 0 earned runs
  • 0 BBs

Dodgers 1 and 2 hitters, Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts, finished the game without a hit as Skenes made them look like me nervous on a first date at the batting cages.

At just 22 years old, we may be witnessing the beginning to a legendary career.

Here’s what Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, said after the game:

“I think that he’s one of the best in the game. Tonight, we really couldn’t muster much.”

“I think that it’s hard to hit guys that good when you’re chasing the hitting zone vs. locking in on your own area. I thought tonight, as well as days preceding, we just are not as disciplined as we need to be in certain areas of the hitting zone.” (Source)

What’s up with the Dodgers?

Coming into the season as the defending world champions and the objective best roster on the planet, the Los Angeles Dodgers are 16-10, sitting in 3rd place in a top-heavy NL West division.

The batting order is flooded with talent and through 26 games, the Dodgers rank 22nd in hits and 19th in on-base percentage. They’re a below-average offense. Perhaps they’re all saving their hits for when their deferred money checks start coming in the mail.

All I know is that no team looks good against Paul Skenes.
