No but Seriously, How are the New York Giants 5-1?

new york giants

The New York Giants are one of three 5-1 teams in the NFL right now alongside the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings. A team that seemed ready to tank is somehow a Top 4 team in the league.

They began the year by getting rid of James Bradberry, Blake Martinez and Logan Ryan. They have a roster full of guys who would struggle to make the local community college flag football team yet somehow, they are just allergic to losing games.

Some people have said the Giants are 5-1 due to their weak schedule. They started the season beating the Tennesee Titans—who are currently in first place in the AFC South. They beat the Packers and Ravens in back-to-back weeks—two QBs who have MVP trophies on their mantles. They beat the Panthers—a head coach that New York media losers desperately wanted the Giants to hire and a QB that prior to this season, everyone would have said was better than Daniel Jones.

They also beat the Bears. I mean, yea that’s an easy dub.

But here’s the thing everyone leaves out of the schedule convo: bad teams lose to bad teams. Good teams beat bad teams. Tom Brady walked into the Super Bowl with a first-round by every year and no one takes away from his success by bringing up that he played in a division against the Jets, Bills and Dolphins. A win is a win.

If you want to use the schedule as an excuse then you also had to add the context of what this Giants roster actually looks like.

The highest-paid player—and the only player on this roster making 10+ million—is Kenny Golladay who has TWO total catches this season and hasn’t caught a touchdown pass since Trump caught Covid.

Every week, Daniel Jones drops back and hits a guy who I swear did not exist the week prior. It’s like the Giants are holding tryouts in the parking lot before the game starts.

Azeez Ojulari led the 2021 Giants in sacks. He’s played in 2 games this season and played in fewer than 50% of the defensive snaps in those 2 games.

So what exactly is going on here?

How are the Daniel Jones-led New York Giants 5-1?

When you look around the NFL, there is a lot of mediocre football being played. The best teams in the NFL put their personnel in the best position to succeed. The bad teams in the NFL put their personnel in the only position they know.

For example, Nathaniel Hackett and the Denver Broncos look atrocious every week with a Hall of Fame QB in Russell Wilson. They stink because Wilson’s best quality is playing in chaos and letting plays break down so he can dance in the backfield and sneak a deep ball past the defense. The Broncos have taken that away from him in a new offensive system centered entirely around timing and hitting receivers as soon as possible. Denver took Wilson’s strength away from him.

Brian Daboll was the former offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills and deserves all the credit in the world for helping Josh Allen transform into the Top 3 QB he is today. The Bills unlocked a new level of Josh by letting that gigantic linebacker-sized boy run the ball.

Daboll came to New York and didn’t try to test what Daniel Jones was capable of. He recognized he had Saquon Barkley and Jones—who is sneaky one of the fastest quarterbacks in the NFL—and designed an entire offense around their strengths alongside Mike Kafka who came from the Andy Reid coaching tree.

The Giants may be one of the least talented great teams in NFL history but they are prepared every week. The players aren’t asked to do anything they aren’t capable of. And for the first time in a long time, everyone in that locker room believes that can win every single game.

Thank you, Brian Daboll. You showed me what love truly means. I can finally get over my abusive ex.
