Prior to Sunday afternoon, Mike White had done nothing but step in and put up numbers. Against the Cincinnati Bengals, the first start of his NFL career, White threw for 405 yards and 3 touchdowns completing 82% of his passes.
The following week against the Colts, he went 7-for-11 with 95 yards and a touchdown before injuring himself but it appeared as though he could’ve repeated his dominance had he physically been able to.
Sooo, you’d expect a QB duel this weekend when the Jets and Bills went to battle.

Nope.
Let’s look at the day Mike White had getting devoured by that Bills defense:
- 22-for-44 passing (54%)
- 215 passing yards
- 0 touchdowns
- 4 interceptions
- 33.4 passer rating
Yike.
I have a few theories on what happened to White Mike so let me get share my research.
1. Joe Flacco’s influence
I am a firm believer that Flacco is an asshole who, at this point in his career, exists for the sole purpose of rolling his eyes at the success of the younger player he can’t manage to get playing time over. Whether it’s Lamar Jackson or Drew Lock or now Mike White, Flacco doesn’t necessarily sabotage their development but the veteran Super Bowl champ is certainly not aiding in his removal from the NFL.
2. Zach Wilson
Perhaps White and Zach Wilson have some agreement. Jets fans were feeling iffy on Zach this season prior to his knee injury. So Wilson and White sat down one night and drew up a master plan. Mike White goes out and has an MVP-caliber game. This creates a fake QB controversy. Then White has a 4 interception game so that fans are begging for more Zach Wilson. Mission accomplished.
3. Mike White stinks.
OR, it’s very possible White isn’t good enough to be a 17-game starter that opposing teams specifically game plan against and he’s a career backup who can win you ONE game a year but should not be asked to do anymore than that.
Either way, the legend of White Mike is over.
