Let’s Check In On 460LB Desmond Watson, the Heaviest Player in NFL History

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed DT Desmond Watson out of Florida. At over 450 pounds, he will be the heaviest player in NFL history.

Following the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed undrafted interior defensive lineman, Desmond Watson, out of Florida. Watson finished his 2024 season with 20 tackles and a batted-down pass in 13 games. His stats don’t jump off the page but stats don’t make him special.

Desmond Watson is a big boy.

At over 400 points, Big Dez is the biggest player in NFL history…

Here’s what Desmond Watson said about the narrative around his weight:

“I feel like my name is etched in history, of course, as being the official heaviest player in the NFL or whatnot,” Watson told reporters this week. “It’s a good story, but at the same time I don’t want that to be my narrative. I want to be known as a football player – and a good football player at that.”

Watson says he doesn’t want his weight to be his narrative so I have some quick advice for him. If you don’t want everyone to know you as the fattest guy to ever play in the NFL, either stop being the fattest guy or don’t play in the NFL.

We’ve seen plenty of massive defensive tackles in this league. They literally exist to take up space. None of them are as enormous as this 22-year-old who would make you walk down 50 flights of stairs before you trusted stepping onto an elevator with this minivan of a human.

Good luck to Watson.

I’m sure he’ll spend that first NFL contract investing in his own personal fitness and not one of everything at whatever fast food restaurant is closest to the check-cashing joint.
