Let Zion Williamson Enjoy His Snacks

On Wednesday night, the New Orleans Pelicans traveled to Texas and beat the brakes off the San Antonio Spurs in a 129-110 victory. Zion Williamson had one of the best games of his career and was immediately asked about food after the game.

Now, I think the reporter was just trying to have a cute feel-good interview with the young star but thanks to multiple years of everyone and their mothers critiquing this man’s physique, Zion doesn’t even feel comfortable talking about Thanksgiving dinner in front of cameras.

When Zion missed last season with a foot injury, there were reports of a massive weight gain. The media seemed to be blaming him for his inability to stay in shape while nursing an injury that made it almost impossible for him to do any cardio at all.

It really took the joy out of making fun of how happy this kid looks around food. The media turned jokes into a referendum on Zion’s commitment and character when at the end of the day, it was simply just jokes.

Look how happy he is. Smiling ear-to-ear waiting on his Baconator with extra bacon. No lettuce of course. Got Zion hanging out the window in anticipation of all the Frostys he ordered himself to eat/drink alone.

I always felt it was okay to make fun of Zion’s weight because he’s still a world-class athlete and can probably jump over me and/or bench press me infinity times. If I eat McDonald’s, I have to take a bottle of Tums. If Zion eats Mcdonald’s, he scores 25 points with a 360 dunk on a fastbreak.

But speaking of scoring, let’s look at the night Zion had against the Spurs:

Zion went nuts against San Antonio. He even had some strong defensive possessions on top of doing whatever he wanted in the paint. I imagine his family sent him a photo of the turkey going in the oven right before the opening tip.

Let’s all just enjoy this massive cannonball of a man jumping so high he hits his head on the ceiling without pretending to care about his health or his long-term future when again, he is in better shape than 99% of the media covering him.

The New Orleans Pelicans can win a championship this season. If all the local restaurants join forces and offer him free meals if Zion brings a title to New Orleans. The Pelicans wouldn’t lose another game if all-you-can-eat gumbo was attached to each victory.

Just let Zion enjoy his treats in peace.
