Leave Zach Wilson Alone

Zach Wilson is taking a lot of arrows for the Jets organizational failures.

Everyone and their mothers are ready to throw Zach Wilson off the Verrazano Bridge after the Jets gross 3-10 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. From fans to the media to teammates in the locker room, Zach Wilson has become public enemy no. 1.

Let’s take a look at how he performed this weekend:

  • 9-for-22 passing (40%)
  • 77 yards
  • 0 TDs
  • 50.8 passer rating

The Jets had more punts than Wilson had completions. The team had a grand total of 103 yards of offense all game. I mean, just look at Zach throw a SCREEN PASS:

He stinks this season. His mechanics are trash. His timing is off. He doesn’t know where the ball is going when it leaves his hand. Bryce Petty would beat him out in a QB battle. Zach Wilson makes Christian Hackenberg look like Joe Montana.

But it’s not his struggles that bother Jets fans as much as his overall attitude. Here is the young milf hunter lacking awareness after the loss:

A softball question was grooved right over the plate for Wilson to say “I need to play better blah blah”, maybe something about having a chip on his shoulder.  Instead, he hit a foul ball directly into his own team’s dugout, knocking out several teammates.

So naturally, he was dunked on by every single human with internet access.

And it’s important to point out that Jets fans have every right to be frustrated. The Jets are in the midst of an 11-year playoff drought. Tom Brady dominated them for two decades and when he finally retires to Florida, Josh Allen emerges from the ashes to keep a knee on the Jets back.

And with the no. 2 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected a messy Mormon boy whose best quality appears to be handing the ball off.

It’s even being reported today that Zach Wilson will be benched this weekend. He has a 5-2 record as a starter and his only two losses are against a Patriots team that made previous Jets QB. Sam Darnold, see his ancestors.

Zach is in his second NFL season and the world is ready to kick him out of the league but no one is pointing a finger at the organization that has no idea how to develop a quarterback.

Zach Wilson looks atrocious sometimes and after star running back Breece Hall tore his ACL, he has been exposed as a guy who doesn’t look comfortable dropping back and reacting to what he is seeing.

One time I showed up to my first day at a job and I couldn’t even find who my supervisor was. After an hour of sort of just following around my most confident-looking coworkers, I finally met with my superior who essentially told me to ‘teach myself’. Over the course of the month or so I worked there, he would get increasingly mad at me for having no idea what I was doing or what my job description was. I got fired for a rule I didn’t know I was breaking.

No one is teaching Zach Wilson any football and they’re looking around confused like “Why isn’t this kid getting any better at football???”

When do we blame the coaching staff for their inability to prepare Wilson enough for him to feel more comfortable performing on Sundays? Why isn’t the playcalling designed to make Wilson’s job easier?

Plus, every quarterback looks mediocre this season. What’s happening with Zach isn’t unique.

Also, how can you blame him for struggling when every time he drops back, he sees flashes of Brandi Love? He’s doing his best.

Either way, we will be blessed with the return of Mike White.

Do you think Zach is getting too much blame for this week’s disaster?  Leave a comment below. Respond on TwitterFacebook or Instagram. Or shoot me an email at Deadseriousmailbag@gmail.com. Let’s chat, bay-beeeee. Let me know if you think the Jets are innocent here so I can list off all the great Jets QB since Joe Nameth.
