Kayvon Thibodeaux vs. Jeff Saturday

New York Giants rookie pass rusher, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and soon-to-be former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Jeff Saturday are at war this week following a huge sack on Nick Foles in the Giants 38-10 blowout victory over the Colts this past weekend.

Not a greaaaaat look by Thibodeaux but hey, if you don’t want to see an opposing player’s sack dance? Don’t let your quarterback be sacked.

Let’s see who’s in the right here.

Kayvon Thibodeaux

The New York Giants selected Thibodeaux with the no. 5 overall pick in last year’s NFL draft. This season, he’s already shown flashes of being a generational talent. Here are some of the numbers he’s put up in 14 games this year:

  • 49 tackles
  • 6 tackles for a loss
  • 4 sacks
  • 13 quarterback hits
  • 6 passes deflected
  • 2 forced fumbles
  • 2 fumble recoveries
  • 1 touchdown

Whenever he steps on the field, he makes a play. Including the play he made on Sunday cutting Nick Foles in half and celebrating by making fake snow angels. Unfortunately, Thibodeaux didn’t realize that Foles was writhing in pain next to him while he was having the time of his life.

Here’s what he said in defense of his snow angels:

“After a sack, you celebrate,” Thibodeaux said twice. “I think when I did realize he was hurt, that’s when we started getting up. When you are doing the celebration, you are not looking to see who is doing what. I hope he gets well, and I hope he is all right.”

My man was on his back celebrating his accomplishment. Only he understands the amount of work and sacrifice it took for him to get to the NFL and succeed at the highest level. He’s allowed to make snow angels. Nick Foles has to get stronger ribs.

Jeff Saturday

Jeff Saturday is one of the greatest offensive linemen of his generation. He’s a 4-time All-Pro and a Super Bowl champion. Sure, the Colts beat the Rex Grossman-led Chicago Bears in that Super Bowl so it was pretty much like beating an Arena Football League team but a win is a win.

Following his retirement, Saturday joined the media and spent the last few years next to Mike Greenberg on ESPN’s Get Up every morning. After work, he coached at the local high school. The team was average as hell but thanks to his relationship with the Colts owner, Jim Irsay, he somehow managed to skip the line from mediocre high school football coach to head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Never had to be an assistant. Never had to coach in college. All he had to do was have Irsay’s phone number in his contacts and he was awarded a job he was nowhere near qualified for.

Perhaps Nick Foles wouldn’t have been buzzsawed by Thibodeaux if the team believed in their coach and they were inspired to actually pass block and protect their QB instead of just going through the motions and making it to the offseason as quickly as possible.

Here’s what Jeff Saturday said about Kayvon Thibodeaux:

“Tasteless from the celebration afterward,” Saturday said Monday afternoon. “Just trash. Not a fan of it at all.”

Tasteless? Trash? Bit dramatic.

Here’s what that celebration showed the world: no one cares about Jeff Saturday.

Again, if the Colts had a coach they wanted to play for then they would’ve cared about their quarterback being injured and mocked. Whenever a team’s QB gets hit after the whistle or takes a dirty hit, the entire offensive line swarms in to protect their guy.

The Colts just watched Nick Foles screaming in agony and Kayvon Thibodeaux smiling ear-to-ear next to him and not one Colt player stepped in to pretend to be tough. They all walked off and watched.

The team either hates Nick Foles—and Jeff Saturday should be aware of that and not give him the QB1 job or the team hates Jeff Saturday but either way, Thibodeaux isn’t the problem with what happened on Sunday.

Can’t wait to see Saturday back on ESPN this summer.
