4-year safety with the Miami Dolphins is signing a 3-year, $45 million deal to save the New York Giants putrid secondary.

Sources: The Giants have splashed again, this time signing Jevon Holland to a 3-year, $45.3M deal in a deal done by Kyle McCarthy and David Mulugheta of Athletes First.

This 3 year, $45.3M deal can get up to $46.8M with $30.3M guaranteed.

What does Jevon Holland bring to the New York Giants?

Taken in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Oregon by the Miami Dolphins—Jevon Holland was arguably the best safety on the market heading into free agency.

And now he’s joining a New York Giants secondary that finished 31st in interceptions last season—including a stretch where they went 11 consecutive games without picking off a quarterback.

Holland will be paired up with second-year safety, Tyler Nubin—who recorded 98 combined tackles in his rookie season, the second most on the team.

Jevon Holland hasn’t even turned 25 yet.

Let’s quickly look at the ages of this Giants defensive core:

  • Dexter Lawrence (27)
  • Brian Burns (26)
  • Kayvon Thibodeaux (24)
  • Paulson Adebo (25)
  • Tyler Nubin (23)
  • Deonte Banks (24)
  • Dru Phillips (23)

The New York Giants might lowkey have a squad next season.

This is the same Giants defense that was leading the NFL in sacks before Daniel Jones’s knee popped and they all know the season is over when they see Tommy DeVito putting his helmet on.

What could go wrong?

Jevon Holland didn’t have the most productive 2024 season with the Dolphins.

He grabbed zero (0) interceptions and just 62 tackles.

I know the Miami Dolphins had a weird season last year but the New York Giants have weird seasons every year.

I’d like a more consistent player taking home $30 million guaranteed.

He’s also spent all of his NFL career playing in Miami. It’s brick here. Need my man to be prepared with the down goose jacket. Winter is coming.

Plus, New York Giants GM, Joe Schoen, is the same man that didn’t bring back homegrown star, Xavier McKinney, because he didn’t believe safeties were deserving of this type of money.

If you want to glass half full this, you can convince yourself that Schoen is learning from his mistakes and instead of doubling down on an idiotic principle, he’s taken a step back and realized “paying for good players is good”.

On the other hand, I don’t want a GM who has to learn that paying for good players is good.

The Giants are doomed.
