After finally getting over the hump last season and winning his first NBA Championship, something weird happened with Jayson Tatum.
Many agree Tatum is the best player on the Boston Celtics but both the Conference Finals MVP as well as the Finals MVP awards were given to his teammate, Jaylen Brown.
But it happens. Steph Curry has 4 rings and only one Finals MVP. Shout out to Andre Iguodala.
However, things only got stranger for Tatum.
He made the final cut for the USA Olympic basketball team roster but was stapled to the bench.
It was so odd, even Tatum’s mother came out with a statement after USA head coach, Steve Kerr, refused to let Jayson Tatum participate.
Fast forward to the Boston Celtics second-round series against the New York Knicks and I think we can all see, clear as day, why Jayson Tatum is treated less than.
Jayson Tatum : 13 points (2 in the 1st half) on 5-19 shooting, 1-5 from 3, 2-2 from the FT line, 14 rebounds, 5 assists & 3 steals in 42 minutes (Got the ball stolen by Mikal Bridges on the final play of the game) pic.twitter.com/ReXhb9Tl8S

The Celtics are down 0-2 to the New York Knicks, having just lost back-to-back home games thanks in large part to their star, Jayson Tatum, playing like he’s terrified of making a mistake.
Here’s what Tatum has brought to the table in his team’s two disappointing losses:
- 33 points
- 12-for-42 shooting from the field (28%)
- 5-for-20 from 3 (20%)
- 8 turnovers
Now, the Celtics struggles do not solely fall on the shoulders of Jayson Tatum but when you’re the best player on a championship team, it’s your job to lead by example, which I guess in a way he is. The Celtics players are watching their star play like dogshit and have absolutely followed his gameplan, as the team has missed 75 total 3-pointers in just 2 games.
Tatum has played mechanical, rigid—unable to handle the defensive pressure OG Anunoby and the Knicks are providing—causing him to play without confidence—chucking up disgusting shot attempts with no hopes of going in.
He has made no real impact on this series aside from grabbing a bunch of meaningless rebounds
The Celtics have been up 20 in BOTH games and still ended up losing in the final minutes because the Knicks have Jalen Brunson—the 2025 NBA Clutch Player of the Year—and the Celtics have Jayson Tatum—who wasn’t good enough to get some Olympic minutes against Brazil.
The only thing that can save the Celtics is if their true superstar, Jaylen Brown, can get enough rest on his busted knee to return to his full athletic self and save Jayson Tatum from embarrassing himself at the ends of these games.
Save us, Jaylen Brown. Save us from Tatum.
