Gregg Popovich is a 5-time NBA champion. He has the most wins as a head coach in the history of the National Basket Association.

And now, it looks like his historic coaching career has finally come to an end as he steps down to join the Spurs front office.

At age 76, Gregg Popovich spent most of the 2024-25 season away from the Spurs after suffering a small stroke in November.

Assistant Mitch Johnson coached San Antonio most of the season and almost had them sneaking into the playoffs prior to stars Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox suffering season-ending injuries.

But it wasn’t just a little stroke in November that put Popovich’s basketball future in question. Two weeks ago, Popovich fainted at a local San Antonio Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and was transferred to the hospital in an ambulance.

Two weeks ago.

Popovich is now running the front office following a year of randomly waking up in hospital beds attached to tubes and machines.

After the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in the first round, the Spurs were rumored to be interested in acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo—but, uh, let’s see how San Antonio pulls off this move with an elderly man who’s one milligram of Vitamin C away from an emergency 911 call.

Gregg Popovich is a legend in the game and deserves the right to half ass a front office position like when Phil Jackson took over the Knicks front office and would nap through rookie workouts. Popovich is entering his soft era.

Wemby has the potential to be the greatest of all time. The only thing in his way is a tired team president stealing paychecks from the team before he’s sent to hospice care.
