Greg Bird is DOMINATING the Mexican League

Greg Bird was the Prince Who Was Promised in The Bronx but after striking out in the Majors, Bird may have found his home in Mexico.

In 2015, we witnessed the passing of the torch in the Bronx. Guys from the 2009 championship team like Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez were suddenly zapped of their abilities to catch up to fastballs but rookies Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez came in looking like they were next in line to get their numbers retired in Pinstripes. Aaron Judge would soon join them and the next dynasty was in place.

Gred Bird tore his labrum and missed the entire 2016 season. He was never the same again. Bird looked overwhelmed at the plate, almost visually leaning back at the plate like he was afraid of the ball.

In Bird’s final season with the Yankees in 2019, Bird hit .171 and was a total nothing at the plate.

At 31 years old staring down a crossroads in his professional career, Bird signed with Mexican League’s Charros de Jalisco in March and has made the most of this new opportunity.

Here’s what Greg Bird has done in 55 games with Charros de Jalisco:

  • .325 batting average
  • 16 homers (4th in Mexico)
  • 43 RBIs
  • 42 runs
  • .621 slugging (8th)
  • 1.031 OPS (11th)
  • 126 total bases (6th)

Greg Bird is one of the best hitters in the league. I’ve prayed for times like these.

What does this mean for the future of Greg Bird?

Honestly, nothing.

It’s super cool for Bird to see himself mashing baseballs again but he’ll never be a first baseman for a Major League Baseball team.

The current Yankees first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, is out for at least a month after breaking his wrist in Fenway over the weekend. But New York doesn’t need Greg Bird. Especially after the debut of new rookie first baseman, Ben Rice.

The batting stance. The swing. The replacing an aging first baseman who cannot hit fastballs anymore. Ben Rice is Greg Bird reincarnated. The Yankees get another chance to develop a young prospect and hopefully, they can do it right this time.

If anything, Bird’s success in Mexico just shows you how shitty this league is.

Honestly, Greg Bird being a Top 10 hitter in Mexico is the worst thing to happen to Trevor Bauer—who is actively trying to trick MLB front offices into believing he’s a dominant pitcher, when in reality, he’s a rapist who won the least impressive Cy Young award with zero fans in the stands, pitching against the worst teams in the sport and whether he wins his little lawsuits or not, he is still a bitch-ass dork getting embarassed by Greg Bird and other MLB rejects.

But good for Greg Bird though. I’m so proud of you, sweetie.
