George Pickens Just Proved He’s a Better Teammate Than Ja’Marr Chase

It may look like George Pickens just had one of the worst games in the history of history but he was actually just demonstrating his selflessness.

Growing up, I would get HYPED for star receiver matchups. Whenever Minnesota and San Francisco had a game, I was locked in on Randy Moss vs. Terrell Owens. As my wrinkles form wrinkles, I still get excited to see which receiver is the bigger sicko. Saturday night’s main event between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh may have looked like a one-sided beatdown by Ja’Marr Chase but George Pickens was actually the better player and better person.

The Cincinnati Bengals needed to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers for a chance to make the playoffs and they did.

The Bengals won 19-17 in a Pittsburgh snow globe where the field looked like it must’ve felt like getting tackled on concrete.

On paper, and maybe on the field too, it looked like Ja’Marr Chase had the better game.

Chase finished with 10 receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown.

George Pickens finished with nothing. In 6 targets, Pickens had just 1 catch for 0 yards and 3 drops.

Some people will look at this game and declare Ja’Marr Chase a better wide receiver.

Maybe they’re right, considering Chase leads the NFL in receptions (127), yards (1,708) and touchdowns (17) and unless Amon-Ra St. Brown has the best game of his career on Sunday night, Chase will become the 5th receiver in NFL history to win the triple crown, leading the league in catches, yards and touchdowns.

Ja’Marr Chase may have solidified himself as the wide receiver with the best stats but George Pickens proved he is a selfless teammate.

George Pickens is a better teammate than Ja’Marr Chase

While Chase spent the final game of the season desperately attempting to drag his team into the postseason by hogging up all of Joe Burrow’s targets, George Pickens knew the Steelers had already clinched a playoff birth so instead of showing off and ending the year getting his stats up, he let his teammates shine.

Steelers tight end, Pat Freiermuth had his best game of the year. 8 catches for 85 yards and a huge touchdown to keep Pittsburgh alive in this game.

What may have looked like a dud performance from George Pickens was actually his way of making sure guys like Van Jefferson and Mike Williams and Najee Harris all get their shine before the regular season ends.

Honestly, George Pickens is so altruistic, I think he intentionally dropped every pass to help the Bengals make the playoffs too.

See, I grew up wanting to see Owens and Moss compete to see who’s better but I never considered one purposely playing like dogshit just to help the other look greater.

Salute to Pickens for sacrificing his reputation to help out his pals.

And much like a real g of the word lasagna, Pickens elected not to speak with the press following the game. People of pure heart don’t do charity to brag about it.

Will George Pickens show up in the playoffs?

Russell Wilson sure thinks so.

Here’s what he said defending his guy after the game:

“I believe in George. Listen, everything’s not always perfect for everyone. This is an imperfect game and everything else. I believe in George, I believe in who he is, the player that he is.

“He’s been a star for us all season, and he’s going to be a difference-maker obviously for us in the playoffs. I’m looking forward to that and what he can do, what we can do together. And I’m not blinking on George. If anybody believes in him, I definitely do.”

Russ is right. Pickens is a difference-maker for the Steelers.

Honestly, I have no idea how this offense won 10 games.

Their offense ranks pretty middle of the pack and even being average feels too high for the players they allow on the field.

Russell Wilson is 36 years old and looks one inch shorter every time the camera pans to him. It’s not a coincidence that the Steelers ended the season losing four in a row while George Pickens recovered from a hamstring injury.

Najee Harris is averaging 61 rushing yards a game. How is this man washed at 26? He wants to be like me sooooo bad.

After losing to Cincinnati, thanks to Pickens’s generosity, they will either face the Baltimore Ravens or the Houston Texans.

Thankfully, guys like Pat Freiermuth and Van Jefferson and Cordalle Patterson got some extra reps this week and they all head into the playoffs with some confidence.

Or George Pickens absolutely sucks.
