Gardner Minshew is one of the most universally beloved quarterbacks in the NFL because..*squints*..he has a mustache (?) or something. Minshew had some decent performances in his rookie season 2 years ago in Jacksonville after the Jags gave Nick Foles a bajillion dollars and then he immediately demolished his collar bone Week 1.
The following season, Minshew was named the starting QB. He was given the keys to the kingdom. The Jaguars went 1-15 and drafted Trevor Lawrence with the no. 1 overall pick this spring leading Gardner Minshew to Philadelphia.
On Sunday, he was awarded his first start for the Eagles. Jalen Hurts was ‘injured’ last week against the New York Giants so he had to sit out. An injury *wink* *wink*. Not the 3 interceptions, 45% completion percentage, 129 yards and 17.5 QB rating. But yes, Hurts was benched because of an injury. Sure.

Before I come off very old man-ish, it’s important for me to step back and make it very clear that I have no problem with Minshew being a different breed of cat. You don’t have to wear suits to the games or your team gear. You can dress like a leather daddy if that’s what you’re into. We don’t kink shame here at Deadseriousness.
But the strange reverence for a guy with a mustache and a bowl cut as if he is the most unique creature in the NFL and Minshew’s awareness of his brand makes the affection for this man seem so disingenuous and just strange as fuck.
Gardner Minshew led the Eagles to a victory over the New York Jets and Minshew Mania is back.
Here’s how Minshew performed against one of the worst teams in the NFL:

Congrats to Gardner. He beat a team he was supposed to beat. He clearly threw some good balls into some tough windows and saw success. He confused the hell out of the Eagles front office following Jalen Hurt’s abysmal performance the week prior. And he probably sold some additional mustache merch.
And by season’s end, he will reveal that he’s mediocre and shouldn’t be given anywhere near as much attention as he receives. That’s how Minshew Mania goes. As is tradition.
