There was a cute little story over the weekend about former NBA All-Star, Amare Stoudamire, graduating from Miami University. I had to pretend to be happy for the 40-year-old millionaire getting a degree he won’t ever use. And later that night, Amare punched his teenage daughter in the face.
According to a copy of the police report obtained by The Miami Herald, Stoudemire allegedly struck one of his two teenage daughters during an argument at his Miami home Saturday night. The report did not identify which of Stoudemire’s two daughters, ages 17 and 14, was hit.
Stoudemire allegedly confronted the girl and accused her of being disrespectful to his mother during a phone call, according to the police report. When she denied it, he told her, “You’re talking back again,” and punched her in the jaw, leaving her bleeding, the report says.
We can stop pretending to love Amare Stoudamire now, right? As a Knicks fan, I had to trick myself into thinking he was a great player because he was the best free agent signing the team made in years but it wasn’t because he wanted to play in New York or wanted to restore the feeling back to Madison Square Garden.
Amare had to sign with the Knicks because LeBron James came, sat through a weird ass meeting and mocked the team after he, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh signed with Miami. The Knicks were one of the few teams with the cap space left to sign Amare but Knicks propaganda made us feel like Stoudamire desperately wanted to be in a Knicks jersey.
He is one of the most overrated players in NBA history. His success at the beginning of his career was directly a result of playing with Steve Nash in Phoenix. He came to New York, scored 25 points a game in his first season and never came close to being that good ever again.
He was an injury-prone, overpaid scammer with brick hands dropping every pass thrown in his direction and having a slow-motion low post game with none of the explosiveness he exhibited in Phoenix.
I will never forgive Amare Stoudamire for punching a fire extinguisher in the playoffs after the Knicks went down 0-2 to the Miami Heat. He broke his hand and cost the Knicks any chance of winning that series because he couldn’t control his emotions.
So of course he would swing on his own daughter for ‘talking back’ to her grandmother on the phone.
Here’s what Amare said on Instagram to defend himself:
“I could never see myself assaulting any person, especially my children. I respect, protect, and love my family, particularly my children. As a father, I ask for your grace as we secure our space and privacy.”
There are photos of his daughter’s head bleeding after she was struck so if Amare Stoudamire is saying he would never assault his children then who the fuck did?
Fuck Amare Stoudamire for punching a teenage girl in the face and then lying about it instead of just owning up to his mistake. It’s actually scarier that he doesn’t think he did anything wrong. How can these children feel safe around a man who thinks the proper disciplining of a teenage girl with an attitude is throwing haymakers?
Just take the girl’s phone away or some shit. You know, normal parenting.
Never trusted a middle-aged black man randomly converting to Judaism. This is an irrational man making irrational decisions. Imagine punching your own daughter in the head so hard that she bleeds and then being like “it wasn’t me”.
Fuck Amare Stoudamire. Keep this weirdo away from children. And basketballs. And synagogues.
