Do Not Feel Bad For Shannon Sharpe

Fox Sports’s Undisputed is a TV program where NFL Hall of Famer, Shannon Sharpe and a sociopathic troll, Skip Bayless, attempt to debate the world of sports. For years, these two seemed to enjoy their little odd couple arrangement but lately, it appears as though Shannon Sharpe has had enough of Skip’s nonsense.

This week, Bills DB, Damar Hamlin, almost died on Monday Night Football. Skip Bayless immediately sent out a weird tweet…

No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.

The entire football world promptly dunked on Skip’s head.

This was an awkwardly worded tweet and with Skip Bayless’s history of going out of his way to say the dumbest thing he can due to his unquenchable thirst for clout and attention, the man deserved all the scorn that came his way.

I think Skip was attempting to say that the NFL shouldn’t worry about the outcome of this game because Hamlin’s life was more important but, ya know, he could’ve just said those words. Instead, he elected to intentionally word that sentiment like an asshole so that people could yell at him and he could be like ‘NO I WAS ACTUALLY BEING GOOD, YOU GUYS ARE THE ONES WHO ARE WRONG’.

Very cool behavior from a 71-year old man. It takes a special type of lunatic to see someone die on a football field and somehow make THEMSELVES the martyr but go off, Skip.

But you know who didn’t find Skip’s deliberately poorly worded tweet? Skip’s tag team partner, Shannon Sharpe, who took the next day off from their show only to come back on Wednesday and have the most intense opening monologue in the show’s history.

Clearly, Shannon Sharpe—like most former NFL athletes in the media—took that Damar Hamlin injury very personally. It was a truly emotional moment to a lot of former players who probably feel a sense of survivor’s guilt knowing they made it out of football alive.

And if you hate Skip Bayless as much as I do then you are glad that Shannon finally went after Skip, regardless of the reason why.

Does Shannon Sharpe deserve any praise for this?

To all the people applauding Shannon for standing up to Skip and calling him out on his bullshit—relax. Undisputed has been on the air since 2016. These two men have been sitting across from each other every day for almost 8 years. Skip Bayless has been a black hole for his entire career. Shannon Sharpe doesn’t get brownie points for calling out Skip ONCE in 8 years.

Shannon made $44 million in his NFL career. He doesn’t need checks from Fox Sports and with the shift in sports media to athletes having their own platforms, there is no excuse for Shannon Sharpe to have co-signed Skip’s nonsense for this long.

Skip Bayless built his entire career on disrespecting primarily black athletes and whether you’re aware of it or not, there is a huge market for racist sports fans wanting to see a guy who looks like them talking wildly about black athletes who they do not revere or respect.

Shannon Sharpe was hired to be the black friend to say “Hey, my buddy Skip ain’t so bad” while tap dancing like the WB frog.

Get both of these men off of TV and maybe we can start to repair all the damage they’ve done to the sports media landscape. Shannon Sharpe does not get to be the hero of this story. Both of them are responsible for Skip’s garbage.
