We are currently in the midst of a major reckoning. Two of the best players in their sports are battling for their freedoms after details of the sex crimes have not only hit the surface but are currently being dissected in front of judges and court stenographers.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen professional athletes be accused of being monsters but this is the first time that it seems as though no one truly wants to cover and comment on these stories.
ESPN has erased them from the news cycle which is insane considering Deshaun is widely listed as Top 5 quarterback and ESPN will do an hour-long deep dive on what a no-name backup offensive lineman ate for lunch that day.
The Trevor Bauer situation has led to commenters being angrily skeptical as more details come out regarding the way Bauer dates women. Baseball doesn’t receive national coverage anymore so there should be no surprise why he hasn’t been mentioned but due to his incredibly offputting internet personality, Bauer has amassed a fan base of trolls and assholes who line up in comment sections to defend their creepy overlord.
Let’s start with Deshaun Watson in our attempt to figure out why anyone on Earth is choosing to defend this man.
Last season, the Houston Texans went 4-12 and were one of the worst teams in football. Deshaun, however, had the best season of his career throwing a league-high 4,823 yards with 33 touchdowns and a 70.2 completion percentage. I want to praise him more for how great that season was but, ya know, all the sex crimes I’m literally one paragraph away from explaining so..
Watson demanded a trade and rightfully so. The man had an MVP caliber season and won 4 games. The organization had let him down year after year and it was time for him to take control of his career. Who knows, maybe win 5 games this year.
It appeared as though the moment he requested a trade, news broke out that he was a sex perv. Tony Buzbee came out with an Instagram post saying he filling a lawsuit against Watson for his misconduct of women but he didn’t really add a single fact or detail to the post.
Internet sleuths quickly discovered that Tony Buzbee is Bob McNair’s neighbor. Bob McNair is the former owner of the Houston Texans (his son owns the team now) whose claim to fame was saying that he couldn’t allow the ‘inmates to run the prison’ which is a super chill way of saying ‘we shouldn’t let black people have too much’
Putting these pieces together gave off the optic that the McNair family paid their buddy Buzbee to mud up Watson’s name because Watson is an inmate trying to run the prison.
That was in March.
Almost six months later and there are 22 women who say that Watson contacted them for a professional massage only to then take his dick out and rub it on them. 22 women.
A man who had a pristine reputation was actually sliding into women’s Instagram DMs begging for massages and tricking women into believing they were giving the quarterback of the local football team a professional athletic massage when he actually got off on their surprise and unwillingness to participate. Just like a typical sex criminal who never led the NFL in passing.
While Deshaun Watson is a (formerly) beloved figure who is being taken down by his actions behind closed doors, Trevor Bauer is a massive asshole who has constantly shown us that he exclusively makes terrible decisions.
As of this week, there are two women who have asked for restraining orders against Bauer after he beat the shit out of them during sex. One woman says she was strangled unconscious while Bauer finished having sex with her lifeless body and the other says her eyes were blood-filled after her encounter with this sociopath.
But unlike Watson’s sex crimes, you’d have to be naive or intellectually disingenuous to be shocked by the news of Bauer’s anger issues, especially towards women.
Trevor Bauer was once taken out of a baseball game and instead of quietly handing the ball to his coach, he turned around and threw the ball out of centerfield.

Very normal.
He harassed a teenage girl on Twitter for literally no reason other than to be a lame troll and gain attention from the corniest people on the Internet. He tagged this girl in over 80 tweets which sent his awkward women-hating fans to also bother her again, for no fucking reason.
Oh, and I’d be remiss if I left out Trevor Bauer’s “dating rules” that he gave in a Sports Illustrated profile completely unprovoked:
“I have three rules. One: no feelings. As soon as I sense you’re developing feelings, I’m going to cut it off, because I’m not interested in a relationship and I’m emotionally unavailable. Two: no social media posts about me while we’re together, because private life stays private. Three: I sleep with other people. I’m going to continue to sleep with other people. If you’re not O.K. with that, we won’t sleep together, and that’s perfectly fine. We can just be perfectly polite platonic friends.”
Again, very normal and not the ramblings of a man who 10000% hits women.
After most mass shootings caused by 20-something white guys, there is almost ALWAYS some puff piece on the Washington Post or Slate or whatever where the writer attempts to empathize with the alienation of the straight white male in today’s society and blah blah. Their loneliness and being held accountable for the actions of their ancestors and wah wah wah fart noise.
Trevor Bauer is the literal patchy chin-strap bearded face of these extremely online weirdos who are convinced they are targets of “cancellation” and other imaginary witch hunts exclusively due to their whiteness and not because they are assholes who spend all of their free time online playing devil’s advocate and bothering anyone with boobs.
Both Deshaun Watson and Trevor Bauer have amassed fan bases that will defend them regardless of the horrific crimes they are defending them from. But interestingly, their fans are on totally different sides of the spectrum.
Watson’s defenders believe they are witnessing is a black successful young man dominating a position typically reserved for guys who look and sound like Peyton Manning and because of recent demands for control over his career, he is now facing fake sexual assault charges to bring him down.
Scroll through comments and it won’t take you long to find someone compare Deshaun Watson to Bill Cosby as they are both perceived as wonderful gentlemen who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Although Cosby wouldn’t hurt anyone until he slips them Spanish fly.
Bauer defenders believe that Trevor is being punished for being himself and “woke culture” is creating an online environment for (mediocre) white guys full of landmines and rakes to step on. Those two girls that Bauer beat the living shit out of actually wanted him to do it because he’s a real alpha male and daddy.
But at the end of the day, we don’t know these strangers. These are totally fabricated parasocial relationships with celebrities who may behave one way publicly only to go home and eat people or whatever. How the fuck would we know?
You do not have to defend these maniacs. If Deshaun Watson’s career is over then it’s because he was a sexual predator and not at all because he was black and had big demands to a racist owner and he’s being targeted.
If Trevor Bauer’s career is over then it’s because he can’t sleep with a woman without sending her to the emergency room and not at all because he’s being cancelled for voting for Donald Trump.
You gain absolutely nothing from defending these guys. They do not represent you. This is not some internet war where defending them wins you a crucial battle in the discourse. What is real, however, are the women who ended up in their orbits and now have to spend their days in courtrooms retelling their traumas.
