6 win season. Star QB on crutches following ACL surgery. Pockets tapped. After trading 25-year old All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie to the LA Rams, Kansas City looked like they’d be spending the offseason begging pawn shop owners but nope, they just added one of the best running backs on planet Earth.

Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a 3-year contract worth up to $45 million, including $28.7 million guaranteed.
Last season, Kansas City ranked 25th in rushing—Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt joining forces for 1,073 measly yards.
Kenneth Walker recorded 1,309 scrimmage yards and 5.2 yards per touch, including 135 rushing yards in the Super Bowl—the most in SB since Terrell Davis in 1997.
The Chiefs just signed Terrell Davis, basically.
The Chiefs haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Kareem Hunt in 2017, almost a full decade ago—the longest draught in the NFL.
Allowing Patrick Mahomes to hand the ball off and watch his running back pick up a first down will be like the first high schooler who realized ChatGPT can do all their English homework. Kenneth Walker is the most talented teammate Mahomes has played alongside since Tyreek Hill was dragging his wife up and down the stairs of their Missouri mansion.
The Chiefs still need to improve their offensive line and find a young, cheap hidden gem in the draft to replace the aging, expensive Chris Jones but Kenneth Walker adds balance to an offense opposing defenses have figured out.
All they need to do is keep Rashee Rice in a straitjacket until gameday and the Chiefs are right back in the championship hunt.
Best case scenario
Kenneth Walker is only getting better. His yards-per-carry went from 4.4 over the first 15 weeks to 5.9 over the final three games of the regular season. Seattle’s RB1, Charbonnet, tearing his ACL in the divisional round, didn’t slow Kenneth Walker down. Despite scoring only 5 touchdowns in the regular season, Walker scored 4 in 3 playoff games with 417 scrimmage yards.
The Kansas City Chiefs are acquiring a running back at the peak of his powers, like when the Eagles signed Saquon Barkley before the 2024 season.
Worst case scenario
Walker played in all 20 games, did not miss a single practice once the season began and was a full participant in all but five of them. He appeared on the Seahawks’ injury report in only 3 of the 21 weeks.
Kenneth logged a ton of miles in 2025, his bones and muscles a ticking time bomb for a brutal injury in a brutal sport.
The Chiefs may have signed a lemon.
