No one enjoys going into a job and being compared to one of the greatest ever. It puts an unearthly level of pressure on someone. One time I started a busboy job and on the first day, the staff kept telling me stories about how talented Andre was—the busboy who held it down before me.
I did not live up to expectations.
Prior to being drafted by the Carolina Panthers, QB Bryce Young was compared to Steph Curry.
Former New York Jets GM, Mike Tannenbaum, went on ESPN’s Get Up and said: “I think he has Steph Curry in him, which is I think he has really good short area movement. I think he has really good flexibility. I think he’s going to be a great passer, not a good passer.”
Here’s what fellow ESPN employee, Kirk Herbstreet, said about Bryce and Steph:
“I use the comparison to Steph Curry because of how cool he is but also his game. How he’s able to generate, I think, an awareness reminds me of Steph Curry. He’s able to distribute. He’s able to score, and that confidence with a little walk off there. That’s Bryce Young. The personality. The way he leads his team for Golden State and the way Bryce leads his team for Alabama. They look like the same guy. I know it’s different sports, but it reminds me so much of Steph Curry.”
Even Texas head coach, Steve Sarkisian gave Bryce the high Steph Curry praise.
“To me [Bryce Young is] Steph Curry on grass.”

And guess what? In only 6 career games, Young is actually living up to those absurdly high expectations. Steph Curry revolutionized the NBA and Bryce is revolutionizing the NFL right before our eyes.
Steph Curry changed the way basketball is played. The entire league is built on 3’s and layups thanks to Steph making NBA organizations realize 3 points were more than 2 points. An entire generation of ball players became perimeter shoots because of Steph.
He changed the way teams draft. Teams used to always draft big men over guards.
Greg Oden was drafted before Kevin Durant.
Andrea Bargnani was drafted before Brandon Roy.
Andrew Bogut was drafted before Deron Williams and Chris Paul.
Sam Bowie was drafted before MICHAEL JORDAN.
I mean shit, in Steph’s own draft year, Hasheem Thabeet was drafted before Steph simply because Hasheem was 7-foot-3.
And Bryce Young is changing the draft too.
Oh no Bryce Young…
Fumble-6 for the Vikings! 👀

Bryce Young is listed at 5-foot-10 and the biggest concern for him was his tiny, frail body.
Here is a photo of Young standing next to ESPN NFL analyst, Mina Kimes:
According to the internet, Mina Kimes is 5-foot-4. She is almost eye level with the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers are currently 0-6 after the Miami Dolphins beat the bone marrow out of them on Sunday.
Here’s what Bryce Young is doing so far this year and where he ranks in the league:
- 967 passing yards (29th)
- 5.3 yards per attempt (33rd)
- 8.4 yards per completion (33rd)
- 33.1 QBR (33rd)
- 63.2 completion percentage (24th)
The league is about to change thanks to Bryce.
Never again will you ever see an NFL organization waste its first-round draft pick on a quarterback who is the same size as an average Korean woman1.
Both Bryce Young and Steph Curry will go down in history as two men who transformed their leagues.
The only difference is that Warriors fans will take photos in front of the inevitable Steph Curry statue outside of the Chase Center while Bryce Young fans will swing on you in the Bank of America Stadium2 corridors if you jokingly remind them the 2023 Carolina Panthers drafted Young no. 1 overall. Like, one of those viral fights where two men built like that guy from Despicable Me have a tag team fight against a man who looks like he can’t wait to get back home and finish binge-re-watching The OC and his girlfriend who cannot wait to get punched in the face and turn this video clip into a dark reflection of our society at large.
When this season is finally over, teams are never drafting a quarterback shorter than 7 feet tall.
Bryce Young is a trailblazer.
Is Bryce Young the final short guy ever drafted that high again? Leave a comment below. Respond on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Or shoot me an email at Deadseriousmailbag@gmail.com. Let’s chat, bay-beeeee. Let me know if you think I’m giving up on Bryce too early and you think he’s going to be a dawg.
- And for all you Mina simps, I was saying she has the average HEIGHT of a Korean woman. No worries, your nerdy NFL queen remains unsullied.
- Love how many stadiums and arenas are named after fucking banks. *most annoying NPC voice* MMM yummy MMM Thank You.
