Matthew Stafford is 4th all time in comeback victories, behind only Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and two fewer than Ben Roethislberger.
Bryce Young had 4 comeback victories this year, in his 3rd career season, the resume starting to look like other first overall draft picks before him, like Matthew Stafford.
The Los Angeles Rams came into Sunday’s matchup on a 6-game winning streak, their place atop the NFC unquestioned.
The Panthers were just held underwater on Monday Night Football, losing 9-20 to the San Francisco 49ers, in front of all the hoes.
But this Rams/Panthers game came down to one attribute: clutch, who got it?
1. Bryce Young out-clutches Matty Stafford
Top of the 4th quarter, Rams down 21-24, Stafford hit Puka Nukua down the field on a huge 31-yard pickup, Puka one-handing it. Then a 7-yard touchdown run by Kyren Williams. Rams up 28-24.
Bet.
Panthers get the ball back.
43-yard touchdown strike to Tetairoa McMillan.
Panthers up 31-28.
This 4th quarter comeback now belongs to Bryce Young.
But 6 minutes left on the clock, Matt Stafford—4th most comebacks in NFL history—plenty of time to get the best team in football down the field to take the lead.
Light work.
Matt Stafford fumble.
Panthers win.
2. Panthers defense ain’t fuckin around
Matthew Stafford set the record with his 28th touchdown pass before throwing an interception, with a first-quarter TD to Davante Adams.
Then he threw some interceptions.
Stafford threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, and vomited the football on the final Rams drive, melting in the proximity of Bryce Young’s aura.

No but seriously, Carolina’s defense had Stafford in the torture chamber.
This Panthers 3 takeaway game is coming a week away from intercepting Brock Purdy 3 times.
Carolina advances to 7-6, a half game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, their defense molding to form the next biggest defensive force
3. The Bears are the 1 seed
As I write this, the Chicago Bears are the 1 seed.
A month ago, Caleb Williams was in the crosshairs of every rube who scrolled past a photo of his painted fingernails and formed the most “this will get me a high five at my local dive bar” opinions about the young QB.
He’s leading a first-place team.
Ben Johnson, already deciding where he wants to display his Coach of the Year trophy.
(This is truly the most disgusting year of football in my life. Everyone sucks. This is all weird and dumb. End 2025. We’re so close.)
