Don’t let the struggles of newly acquired Juan Soto distract you from how great the 2025 New York Mets are. After sweeping the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies back-to-back, the Mets sit in first place in the NL East, and on Monday night, Brandon Nimmo did everything in his power to make sure New York remains at the top of the standings.

The Mets dogpilled the Nationals in a 19-5 jumping thanks to Brandon Nimmo stepping up to the plate swinging a tree trunk.
Here’s the totality of the Brandon Nimmo damage:
- 4 hits
- 2 homers (1 grand slam)
- 4 runs
- 9 RBIs
- 1 double
Brandon Nimmo now ties Carlos Delgado with 9 RBIs, the most in a single game in Mets history.
Nimmo needed a game like this.
The 32-year-old entered Monday night’s batting practice looking like his skill had fallen off a cliff.
In 27 games, Nimmo hit .192/.239/.337 (64 OPS+) with 4 home runs and 12 RBIs—including a 7-for-47 (.149) slump with no extra-base hits in his last 12 games.
After Monday’s awakening, he’s hitting .218/.261/.418 with 6 homers and 21 RBIs.
If the Mets get Nimmo going, this team may cruise to the World Series. Just, uh, whatever you do, do not check on Juan Soto—who had 0 RBIs in a game in which the Mets scored 19. He’s almost a billionaire and he’s having the most average of seasons ever.
