Bob Myers Escapes The Golden State Warriors Before The Whole Thing Burns to the Ground

In 12 years as the general manager of the Golden State Warriors, Bob Myers won 4 NBA titles and has taken home the Executive of the Year award twice. Myers is responsible for hiring Steve Kerr, acquiring Finals MVP Andre Iguodala and getting the salary cap in good enough shape to sign Kevin Durant.

Anddddd, now he’s sprinting full speed away from a franchise with a potentially brutal offseason coming up.

This is about to be the most difficult offseason in the history of this organization. Draymond Green has a player option he will most likely decline in hopes of getting one last big max contract. Green somehow had a 20 and 10 game in the second round of the playoffs against the Lakers juuuust to make this contract negotiation harder for Golden State.

On one hand, Draymond has been instrumental in winning all of these championships. His ability to play center and defend opposing teams bigs has allowed the Warriors to play smaller and quicker than everyone else. At one point, Draymond was the best on-ball defender in the world.

On the other hand, this season started off with him punching Jordan Poole in the mouth at practice. I don’t want the 33-year-old ‘leader’ of my team knocking out younger guys he’s supposed to be mentoring.

He’s also fallen off a cliff athletically and it feels like the entire NBA is about done with the bullshit he does on the court like when he was suspended in the first round against the Kings for stomping on Domantas Sabonis’s chest like Randy Orton at Wrestlemania.

I imagine Bob Myers wasn’t in a hurry to deal with those contract talks.

You also have Klay Thompson who is eligible for an extension as well and also wants one last big max contract.

Here’s what Klay did against the Los Angeles Lakers in a must-win Game 6:

That guy wants a max deal this summer.

Oh, and there are already rumors saying head coach Steve Kerr—who is entering the final year of his contract—would replace Gregg Popovich in San Antonio. Steve Kerr is about to be the greatest coach in NBA history based solely on hitching his wagon to Steph Curry and Victor Wembanyama, two generational talents. Ew.

So yea, you can understand Bob Myers wanting to swan dive off the Titanic before it explodes. Plus, Myers has escaped criticism for wasting the 2020 no. 2 overall draft pick on James Wiseman instead of packaging the pick for a player who could’ve helped the team get past the Lakers this year. Literally if Wiseman, Moses Moody or Jonathan Kuminga were actual real-life basketball players, they’d be in the Finals right now.

If Myers stuck around for another season, his legacy as a GM would’ve been under the microscope of the most toxic media personalities like Stephen A. Smith or Bill Simmons.

With Bob Myers gone, what’s next for the Warriors?

All signs are pointing to the fall of Rome. Warriors owner, Joe Lacob, is about to hand the front office over to his son. Yes, the biggest NBA dynasty of our lifetimes is about to become a failson’s passion project. Look at America. Nepotism has ruined 99% of everything it’s touched.

This organization has a lot of question marks heading into next season and Joe Lacob’s son Kirk is going to be tasked with finding the solutions to these problems. Personally, if I were Joe Lacob I would hire a real GM like Scott Perry from the Knicks perhaps, ya know, instead of my son whose greatest accomplishment is being my son.

The good news is, we will never have to deal with Warriors fans again. Bob Myers is leaving and taking all of the winning with him.
