And now that one of the greatest wrestlers of all time is back for the Road To Wrestlemania, we have to talk about the winners and losers of his return.
Let’s start with the winners:
1. Roman Reigns
You can’t talk about the winners in WWE without mentioning Roman Reigns—who makes the most money while simultaneously having the most PTO in wrestling history.
The man shows up once every 12 weeks, has Paul Heyman do all the talking for him and then leaves with a championship he’s not allowed to lose for some reason.
Now he gets to beat The Rock in a Head of the Table storyline that’s like, 18 months too late because the Bloodline is over and Roman Reigns never shows up to any television tapings anymore.
It’s going to be The Rock talking to Jimmy Uso every week while Roman is on vacation with his phone on Do Not Disturb.
All he has to do is show up for, what? A contract signing?
Roman Reigns is getting million-dollar direct deposits and gets to become the longest-reigning champion ever without ever having to leave his couch. What a legend.
2. LA Knight
I understand a lot of LA Knight fans want him to win the big championship but in reality, he’s a 6-foot tall, late-blooming, 40-year-old TNA alum who has no business being featured on Smackdown anywhere near as frequently as he is.
And I guarantee LA Knight and The Rock meet face-to-face at some point. Knight has been compared to the Stone Cold and The Rock too many times for WWE to not try and create a viral moment between these two.
Sure, The Rock coming back automatically moves LA Knight down the championship rankings but again, this run has nothing to do with titles. Knight is there to walk out in Timbs and talk shit. He and The Rock are going to have an electric moment.
And maybe Knight can win the United States title down the road or something. Shrug.
3. Triple H
Triple H is about to have an incredible 2024.
For the first time, he is booking WWE programming without Vince McMahon in his ear like Palpatine telling Anakin to cut off Count Dooku’s head. Vince can go die slow while Triple H brings back CM Punk and The Rock for Wrestlemania 40.
Nia Jax, The Rock’s cousin, quietly just had the best match of her career on the same night The Rock returned. Not only is Triple H bringing back one of the greatest ever but he’s also building up a giant to inevitably lose to one of his new proteges—Jade Cargill.
Triple H will book one of the greatest Wrestlemania’s ever while Tony Khan over in AEW is just throwing Bryan Danielson’s rotting body into hour-long matches week after week.
4. Cody Rhodes
Cody is the obvious loser.
Last year he triumphantly returned to WWE to finally win the world championship for his late father and end Roman Reign’s title run. He lost at Wrestlemania 39.
This entire year was meant to rebuild Cody so that we can feel like he ‘earned’ his victory over Reigns and now The Rock is here to take that main event from him.
But I believe Cody is still winning the title at Wrestlemania 40.
February’s Elimination Chamber is in Perth, Australia. That’s a big ass event that you’d want to use The Rock’s name to boost ticket sales and overall visibility.
I imagine The Rock and Roman battle at Elimination Chamber and Cody Rhodes still gets his Wrestlemania main event rematch.
Except this time, the entire wrestling world is buzzing from Roman’s match against the match. Cody Rhodes beats Roman at the height of his powers. It was the ultimate baton pass at WM40.
And now onto the Losers….
1. The Rock
Man, Black Adam really ruined The Rock’s Hollywood career. It made less money than Puss in Boots: The Last Wish—the 6th movie in the Shrek franchise. And then James Gunn took over DC and canceled all The Rock-related projects.
The Rock put all of his eggs into the superhero basket but like, 5 years after the comic book movie bubble burst and now, he has no Hollywood prospects left.
The Rock doesn’t want to be traveling the country with fucking Bronson Reed and Johnny Gargano but he has nothing left. NBC canceled his show, Young Rock. He has no choice but to crawl back to WWE and pretend like he wasn’t desperately separating himself from what he probably considers to be embarrassing.
2. CM Punk
CM Punk left WWE a decade ago because he could not fathom why The Rock was getting the Wrestlemania main event spot instead of him and now he’s back in a Groundhog’s Day loop where he is once again forced to watch The Rock be the main event of Wrestlemania while he does some busy work with Seth Rollins.
But CM Punk deserves this. He thought he was bigger than AEW and the grass was greener over in WWE but whatever they promised him went right the fuck out of the window when The Rock agreed to work with Roman.
3. Tony Khan
You never want your competition to bring back The Rock a couple days after you had one of the worst pay-per-views in your company’s history. Tony Khan is actively dealing with Chris Jericho sexual predator rumors while WWE is about to sell out every show through Mania by simply promising Rock will show up.
Now, I am in no way one of those AEW concern trolls who pretend as if the company is going to go out of business. However, I do recognize WWE is as hot as they’ve ever been while AEW feels ice cold.
And they don’t have a Rock to bring in and save them.
4. Cody Rhodes
Okay, forget everything I wrote about Cody earlier. This man is 1000% about to have a singles match against Kevin Owens to open the first night of Wrestlemania. Punk and Rollins have one title match and Roman and The Rock for sure have the other.
Have fun ‘going viral’ with Logan Paul in the Cinnamon Toast Crunch tables match.
