Baker Mayfield is going through a lot right now. His non-throwing shoulder is hanging on by a thread right now while the Cleveland Browns sit at the bottom of the AFC North with a 4-4 record. He’s also having a little internet war where he and his wife are battling Odell Beckham’s family over who is to blame for Odell’s terrible season.

But none of it is as weird as Baker randomly posting propaganda to his Instagram story completely unprovoked.

Perhaps this is the reason Baker Mayfield is struggling to read defenses. Clearly, his critical thinking skills are non-existent because the Browns franchise quarterback is under the belief that the mere hint of police officers somehow prevents MURDERS.

Now, I’d like to imagine Deadseriousness readers are savvy enough to understand why this is silly. I mean, my logo is literally a hammer and sickle. BUT, on the off chance you are new here and agree with Baker, let’s actually talk about human behavior.

Cops do not prevent crime.

They show up when the crime has already been committed and they either do nothing or make things astronomically worse. You can make the argument the existence of public beat cops may prevent small petty crimes like, I guess no one is stealing from 7-Eleven while a cop is there making a coffee(?). That’s true, sure. You win one.

But beat cops do not prevent HOMICIDE.

The financial situations of city residents—as well as the psychological conditions of that city—directly affect murder numbers. When people feel like they are out of options whether due to financial struggles caused by lack of work opportunities or livable wages, they tend to no longer give a shit about their future or the consequences of their actions.

Cops can swarm Austin or cops can be banished from the city, the murder rate has absolutely nothing to do with the police presence and the fucking staffing issues.

That was a lot of ranting but blame Baker for making me write this.

Conservatives are people who don’t understand how people work. Maybe don’t give a huge contract to your ‘leader’ who doesn’t get how or why people behave the way they do. Kind of explains his beef with Odell right now.

Did you see that? It all came together at the end. Just like I planned.
