Aussie Swimmer Talked Shit About Team USA…Then Didn’t Qualify For The Paris Olympics

Australian Swimmer, Cate Campbell, had a lot to say about Team USA at last year’s World Championships. A reaaal shame she won’t be in Paris.

Meet 32-year-old swimmer, Cate Campbell, who went viral in 2023 after dropping a WWF-style promo against Team USA, totally unprovoked.

Here’s what she said about America:

“Such, such, sore losers. Australia coming out on top is one thing, but it is just so much sweeter beating America. There were a couple of nights, particularly the first night of competition, where we did not have to hear the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ ring out through the stadium and I cannot tell you how happy that made me.”

“If I never hear that song again it will be too soon. Bring on Paris, that’s all I have to say. U.S., stop being sore losers.”

Australia took home 15 gold medals at the 2023 World Championships in Japan. 8 more medals than America. Good for them. They were on top so they are certainly allowed to talk all the shit they want. They earned it. Pools are cold and they have to jump into those things every day of their lives. Could not be me.

But the whole “bring on Paris” line miiiiight be a little too much for Cate Campbell who, and I must repeat this loud and clear for everyone, did not qualify for the Paris Olympics.

I wasn’t particularly concerned about the Aussies, especially considering America has the GOAT swimmer, Katie Ledicky, who holds the record for the most individual swimming titles, man or woman.

Just look at this insane graphic:

She holds the 18 fastest times for one singular event. She’s more fish than human. Katie Ledicky was not about to let Cate Campbell win a single gold but we’ll never know because Campbell couldn’t even qualify.

However, Michael Phelps took Cate’s words personally and had this to say in response to her taunting Team USA:

“If somebody said that to me, I would lose it. I would make them eat every word they just said about me. Cause people have done it. Chad le Clos, [Ian] Thorpe. You guys have all talked sh-t about me and I had the last laugh.”

“So for the Americans, if you see what I just saw, I would watch that thing every day to give me that little extra bit of just oomph”.

Shout out to Michael Phelps for always reminding me it takes a special sort of sociopath to dedicate their entire lives to being the absolute best at highly specific things like swimming the distance of a pool really fast or throwing a sharp stick really far.

Swim faster next time, Cate.

  1. Dunno if her retirement actually matters. People say things. Doesn’t mean they aren’t nice people. Cherry picked results don’t really clarify the matter. As you said, they are “allowed to talk shit” about their rivals. Don’t even know what this article is even about.
