I have hated Josh Donaldson for his entire career.
The self-proclaimed “Bringer of Rain” has always came off as an actor auditioning for the role of stereotypically lame, thoughtless sports bro without it ever feeling like he was being his authentic self. Even his corny ass mohawk haircut and wearing eye black and just looking like he’s starring in a CW show about a small-town baseball club with secrets.
I think Donaldson is one of the most overrated players ever and history will not be kind to him winning the 2015 AL MVP. When we look back at Mike Trout’s career, we will point to Josh Donaldson robbing him of another MVP.
It’s like when Miguel Tejada won the 2002 AL MVP over Alex Rodriguez.
Josh Donaldson’s last great season was with the Atlanta Braves in 2019. He was 33 years old. Its absurd to see his numbers dropping every season and still believe that at the age of 36, he’d still be a productive Major League Baseball player.
But Yankees GM, Brian Cashman, still believed. He traded Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez to the Minnesota Twins for Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
Here is Cashman proudly bragging about how much better Donaldson is than Urshela:
“We appreciate what Gio has done but he’s not Josh Donaldson.”

Gio Urshela and Gary Sanchez are having good seasons whiel Josh Donaldson was just cut by the Yankees after batting .142 with a -0.1 WAR and 75 OPS+.

SEEEEE YAAAAAAA, BITCH.
Josh Donaldson’s presence on this team represented everything wrong with the Yankees.
- They love acquiring aging, declining, injury-prone players.
- He’s another right-hander in a ballpark BUILT for lefties.
- He costs far more than he’s worth
- He’s a phony, inauthentic loser who thinks he’s behaving the way a professional athlete is supposed to.
- He almost has more homers than hits because this organization doesn’t give a shit about base hits as if Derek Jeter hitting bloopers into the outfield didn’t win them 100 games a year.
Perhaps this is a step in the right direction. The Yankees are finally acknowledging their mistakes and for the first time in a long time, they are correcting the problems instead of doubling down.
Now fire everyone.
