New York Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. is so unbelievably sick with it, Seattle Mariners rookie shortstop Colt Emerson got sent back down to Triple-A after New York won 2 out of their 3-game series this week.
With infielders Brendan Donovan and JP Crawford on the IL, 21-year-old SS Colt Emerson, one of the top prospects in baseball, fresh off an 8-year, $95m contract penned preseason, got the call to the majors.
Strikes out a shit ton—34.4% in 68 games.
Each day in the Majors, worse than the last.
Home run in his second career game. Time to build a dynasty around him.
Hit .205 with a .271 on-base percentage in June.
.157/.185/.196 since the beginning of July, the worst offensive player in the league during that stretch.
His last start? 4 at-bats, struck out all 4 times.
Meanwhile, George Lombard Jr sporting a .827 OPS, 134 wRC+ and the slickest glove in the game.
Only 10 SS in MLB have more DRS than George Lombard Jr.

P.U.
Seattle Mariners saw George Lombard Jr, the mere sight of an actual, genuine franchise cornerstone shortstop, and called for the Tacoma Rainiers bus to come scoop up Colt Emerson.
The good news for Mariners fans
2027 (or whenever the owners give up or the player’s union sells out the players) should be a better ball club.
No. 1 pitching prospect, lefty starting pitcher Kade Anderson, will join the rotation. Colt Emerson, after a winter working on his flaws, improves—the 2027 Seattle Mariners should be kinda sick with it. Another season of Julio Rodriguez and Emerson Hancock. Cole Young is a cool second baseman.
Cal Raleigh can address—whatever his thing is—and the Mariners are back losing in the ALCS next season. As it was written.
