landry shamet resigns
NBA

The New York Knicks secret x-factor, capable of combusting for 20 points on any given night, Landry Shamet solidifies himself into the team core, the Habibi Hero re-signing with a 4-year, $25 million contract, running it back with the boys.

Why the Knicks need Landry Shamet

Last season, Shamet averaged 9.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 23.0 minutes per game.

In 2 NYC winters, Landry’s shooting 39.4% from 3, blacking out, nuclear reaction, lava flowing through Penn Station, 29-for-61, 47% from behind the arc, a literal coin toss.

He and Brunson’s late 4th quarter 2-man game won the Knicks several playoff games. His understanding of how to play with the team’s superstar isn’t something you just recreate next season with some other random shooter.

The Knicks need guys who can relieve the pressure on Jalen Brunson. Landry Shamet is crucial.

Plus, he’s a tenacious defender, willing to body up the other team’s best guard, if need be, like when he latched onto Donovan Mitchell in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Why Landry Shamet needs the Knicks

Landry plays like a guy desperate to maintain his career as an NBA player. He could be the king in Europe or Central America, he and Boogie Cousins playing keep away against disgraced baseball failures, but he fought and clawed his way onto the Knicks, signing minimum contracts, back-to-back seasons, narrowly making the roster last season, saved by Malcolm Brogdan’s tank hitting E.

For the first time in his NBA career, Landry has job security, playing for a franchise that he proved his worth, the Larry O’Brien his receipt.

It’s cool as hell his contributions were rewarded. The Knicks can still package him in a trade whenever they feel. He should still lease month-to-month but at least, for the next 4 years, he doesn’t have to play in Jerusalem.

What’s next for New York?

The Knicks need a big man. Mitchell Robinson moved to Boston and Ariel Hukporti to Philly.

I don’t think Karl-Anthony can handle 48 a night.
