Cody Rhodes is a Sicko

AEW typically dominates the online wrestling discourse. It’s new, exciting and they obviously care about pleasing wrestling diehards but Cody Rhodes is demanding us all to look at what he’s doing in the WWE.

Cody Rhodes has been on a mission to be the most beloved wrestler in the world. It’s very clear he left AEW because he looked around the room and realized no matter what he did there, he would never get the praise that someone like CM Punk gets.

Look at this table spot:

There is absolutely no reason why he lit that table on fire outside but after what he did this weekend in Hell in a Cell it has become quite clear what’s going on: Cody Rhodes is a sicko.

Reports came out that Rhodes tore his pec in a weightlifting accident prior to his big main event match against Seth Rollins in a Hell in a Cell. An injury that would take up to 9 months to fully heal. Didn’t matter. Cody wanted to go through with the match anyway because of course he did.

The match was difficult to watch. Two of the most talented performers in the world and you had to look away as Cody’s chest was visibly hanging on by a thread. A strong gust of wind would’ve sent his pec into the concession stands. But the true sicko in him shined as he appeared to intentionally make sure his torn pec was frequently in the line of fire.

There’s one moment in the match where he and Seth both attached the bull rope to their wrists. At one point, they spilled outside the ring and Seth used the rope to pull Cody into the ring post. Cody could’ve run into the post with his noninjured shoulder but instead, chose to slam his melting pectoral into the post. Fucking sicko.

The discourse surrounding the match was mostly anger towards WWE for allowing Cody to even participate in that brutal Hell in a Cell but we should really all reframe our thinking on it. There was nothing Vince McMahon could’ve said or done to stop Cody. That psychopath would rather die in the middle of the ring than let down a single fan.

It’s inspiring to watch a man decide he wants to be the best and will do anything to become the best. The massive thing that separates AEW and WWE for me is the match quality. It feels as though every WWE match is pretty formulaic. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar was built as the biggest match of a generation and it was kinda blah.

Cody Rhodes will always do something in the ring to make any match he’s in memorable. Long gone are the real star-making matches like Stone Cold bleeding out taking a sharpshooter from Bret Hart or Randy Orton and Mick Foley swinging a barbed wire bat into each other’s faces. These days, stars exist because WWE tells you nonstop that they’re stars and you sort of just go along with it over time.

But Cody is on a one-mission to make himself a star by any means necessary and battling in a Hell in a Cell as your pec slides down your abdomen is how you become a star.

I cannot wait for him to return from this injury and just jump off the top of a cage directly onto his skull for no reason. He’s going to light himself on fire in the middle of the ring as he demands a title shot.

Cody Rhodes is a fucking sicko. Let’s see what crimes against humanity he has left up his gangrene-ridden sleeve.
