Welcome to The Pipe Bomb, where we discuss the latest news and events from the wrestling world, both inside and outside the ring. This week, let’s talk about AEW Full Gear 2025

JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE

When Samoa Joe is on your roster, he should always be considered a championship threat.

With Bryan Danielson and now John Cena retiring,

AJ Styles publicly flirting with the idea.

Samoa Joe, too, admitted he is close to the finish line.

We are approaching the end of the era that raised me.

Samoa Joe was instrumental in shaping the lens through which I diagnose professional wrestling.

So you know we were HYPED as hell at Deadseriousness HQ when Samoa Joe got the 3-count to become 2-time AEW World Champion.

I enjoyed Hangman Page’s title run.

If I were World Champion, I, too, would throw Powerhouse Hobbs off a balcony, through an exploding table.

Page’s run overshadowed by the total absence of his peers. Will Ospreay, Jay White, and Swerve Strickland on the injury report. MJF conquering side quests. Kenny Omega died for our sins.

Adam Page gave Lee Moriarty a moment on TV. He and Fletcher had a banger.

But no juicy story he could sink his teeth into. No equal (outside of Samoa Joe) appearing as much of a threat.

Adam will be fine. Swerve is back to make things interesting.

Can we talk about Hook?

Hook would not be my first choice to interrupt the main event of the second biggest title change of the year but I trust Tony Khan. In his recent interview with Ariel Helwana, he reminded us win-loss records reset—every performer starts each new year with a 0-0 record.

Anyone can get their opportunity to prove they belong with the sharks.

Hook’s been here forever, middling—running into the ring to scare off whoever his boss told him to on the given day. Oh, I’m helping Eddie Kingston this month? Sure.

I’d love to see Hook take this opportunity and prove he was deserving of all this screen time he’s wasted thus far.

Let’s see if Hook can hang. Once and for all.

Mark Briscoe vs. Kyle Fletcher

Kyle Fletcher is the coolest wrestler of 2025.

Sprinkled in pink, glasses with the old lamp shade fringe tassels, he and Takeshita, the modern-day Outsiders.

Fletcher walks onto the stage, I’m done scrolling. Why am I in the New Rory and Mal subreddit? I don’t even listen to this show. Oh shit, Kyle Fletcher’s here.

Mark Briscoe matured into a millennial Mick Foley.

You need to crawl through barbed wire if you want to retrieve the praise of surviving a Mark Briscoe program.

The title may have changed hands but Kyle Fletcher walks out of Full Gear with more respect.

The #1 contender’s match for the TNT Title on Collision before All in.

The Texas Death Match to retire Dustin Rhodes.

His AEW Championship program with Hangman Page and their 40-minute masterpiece.

Victories over Kommander, Orange Cassidy, Ace Austin, Kyle O’Reily, Kyle Fletcher’s 2025 is forever cemented as an all-time run. This is 2004 Kanye West. 2016 Steph Curry.

The internet has anointed Will Ospreay a dramatic championship win at All In 2026 but Kyle Fletcher is far more likely and deserving to be in that All In main event.

Mercedes Mone should’ve won

Mercedes Mone is already living on a planet in another galaxy, far, far away.

She has 13 belts in her possession.

She went to Rome and jumped an old carny for her championship a month ago. We’ve never seen anything like this in our lifetimes.

And we should push it as far as the bounds of reality allow.

Every league, hand your women’s championships to Mercedes Mone. I want a global stick-up. Despicable Me shit. Put all the belts in the bag and shut the fuck up.

It should take Mercedes 15 minutes to get in the ring as she walks from the parking lot past rows of her titles perched on marble columns.

Congrats to Kris Statlander. Mercedes is the best in the world and Kris effortlessly maintains pace and speed with her. Every time.

Much like Hangman, Kris hasn’t had a super interesting story yet, but I see bangers against Megan Bayne and Thekla soon cometh.

Again, if I were booking, Mercedes would’ve won the World Title and every existing title. Fuck it, get her in TNA. Tony Khan has the money to disrupt WWE’s silly business plans.

As I type this, Mercedes should be beating a teenager in her backyard trampoline league she set up with her friends. Mone Maker, 1-2-3, clean finish. Hit the weight room, everyone.
