Emilia Perez is a French musical about a Mexican cartel kingpin who fakes their own death to start a new life as a trans woman—made by a French director who is completely dismissive of Mexican culture—starring Zoe Saldana desperately trying to win an Oscar, Selena Gomez, a billionaire who cries on social media about how helpless she is to change the world while having access to life-changing money that could help literally anyone—and Karla Sofía Gascón, a middle-aged trans woman who hates everyone.
it’s so insane that karla sofía gascón still has these tweets up. straight up have never seen tweets this racist from someone actively campaigning to win an ACADEMY AWARD. there are more than a dozen… pic.twitter.com/1rcNzkJXuo

That’s only a fraction of the insane tweets she was sending out, unprovoked.
Homegirl was sitting in her trailer, waiting to be called onto the set of a generic Mexican soap opera, getting pissed at the existence of anyone that isn’t her.
She’s written racist statements against Muslims, black people, the Chinese. Every. Body.
But we all grow and mature.
We can’t get angry at Karla Sofía Gascón for her old tweets like in 2020 when she described George Floyd as a “drug-addicted con artist”.
Sure, on paper, Gascón was 48 years old but she transitioned in 2016 so technically she was only 4 years old when she tweeted that—a baby.
She was just shitposting. All kids do it.
Like when she tweeted about the 2021 Oscars ceremony “More and more the #Oscars are looking like a ceremony for independent and protest films. I didn’t know if I was watching an Afro-Korean festival, a Black Lives Matter demonstration or the 8M [feminist strike],” she obviously wasn’t expecting to end up actually nominated for an Oscar—starring in one of the types of movies she was shitting on.
Plus, and I can’t stress this enough, this is from 2021.
Karla was only 5 years old. Sort of. She’s learning in real time just like the rest of us.
My personal favorite old tweet about her co-star in Emilia Perez, Selena Gomez: “She’s a rich rat who plays the poor bastard whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife.”
Yike.
She tweets like a high school gym teacher who was fired for helping a few student-athletes “stretch” privately after school and, with all their newly acquired free time, exclusively consumes and regurgitates content created to manipulate frustrated old white men who can no longer sexually harass their coworkers and blame “woke” for all their self-inflicted problems.
I love this story so much
. It would be like if no one knew who Azalea Banks was and after being nominated for A 2025 Grammy, suddenly an avalanche of allllll of the stories we know about her came out. “Wait, what? Russell Crowe spat at her once??”
It’s disappointing that Karla is a psychopath but at the same time, I was never under the impression that she was about to become an A-List celebrity after Emilia Perez—a movie I have yet to see someone say they genuinely enjoyed from beginning to end.
I’m okay with some celebrities being bitter assholes with hate in their hearts—especially ones like Karla Sofía Gascón, whose names we’ll forget by 2026.
But Emilia Perez is entering the Oscars with 13 award nominations, including Karla Sofía Gascón being the first openly trans woman to earn a Best Actress nomination, so naturally, she apologized:
“I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt,” Gascón, 52, said in a statement provided by Netflix, the distributor of “Emilia Pérez.” “As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.”
*wipes hands clean* Ah, that’s that then.
She has learned from her mistakes—constantly tweeting about how much she hates Muslims—and is ready to receive her accolades now.
Please don’t let the decade of Tweets that read like the foreword of Meinkampf change your opinion of a woman you knew nothing about and a movie you didn’t really care for.
She’s still learning💫
