The New York Giants Need To Bring Back Dave Gettleman

With the failures of the 2024 Giants, it looks more and more likely GM Joe Schoen will be fired. Dave Gettleman should return to save them.

Since hiring GM Joe Schoen before the 2022 season, the New York Giants have been in hell.

The only success Schoen’s had came in his first season when the Giants advanced to the divisional round before being beat by the eventual NFC Champions but that wasn’t even Schoen’s success to claim.

Those were Dave Gettleman’s baby boys. That 9-7-1 season and 1st-round playoff win belongs to him.

Dave Gettleman was the best thing to happen to the Giants in years and he was forced into retirement so we could watch Schoen and Brian Daboll turn this organization into a laughing stock.

On Sunday, the Giants got their doors blown off by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 30-7 beatdown. Baker Mayfield looked like a Hall of Famer and Tommy DeVito looked like Tommy DeVito.

Meanwhile, the guy Dave Gettleman drafted with the 2018 no. 2 overall pick, Saquon Barkley, has not only signed with a divisional rival but he’s having the best season of his career.

Here’s what Saquon did to the Rams in the Eagles 37-20 victory over LA on Sunday night:

  • 26 carries
  • 255 rushing yards
  • 2 touchdowns
  • 4 catches
  • 47 yards

Saquon Barkley had 302 total yards on his own. The Giants had 245 yards as a whole team.

They attacked Gettleman for selecting a running back with the no. 2 pick in a draft where Josh Allen, Sam Darnold and Lamar Jackson were all available—and the Giants QB at the time was a 37-year old who only won 3 games the year prior.

But no one has patience anymore.

See, Gettleman knew Saquon would be often injured and spend too much time dipping and dodging and playing in the backfield instead of hitting the holes and always making sure the ball moved forward—but Gettleman also knew that in year 7, Saquon would become an MVP candidate, leading all backs in both rushing attempts and yards.

It’s this microwave/fast food society we live in.

If people don’t see results right away, the pitchforks come out.

If only they had seen Gettleman’s vision and just waited two presidential terms for that Saquon pick to make sense.

Look at the NFL landscape now.

Daniel Jones is about to have a televised special, sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club, to announce which team he’ll play for next after being cut by the Giants last week.

Teams are throwing themselves at Daniel Jones, who Gettleman drafted with the no. 6 in 2019.

Gettleman’s two biggest draft picks are the two most talked about players in the NFL this week. Even in retirement, he keeps the Giants more relevant than the current regime is.

Do I even need to mention Gettleman used a 1st round pick on TWO-TIME NFL Champion, Kadarius Toney?

Dave Gettleman sees football on a different plane than the rest of us. And Giants fans banished him simply for not understanding his genius. He plays 4D chess. Like when he signed Odell Beckham Jr to that big contract, promised he wouldn’t be trading him, then traded him to the Browns, resulting in a massive cap hit.

Well, Odell sucks now and that cap hit is off the books. *taps temple* do you guys see the vision yet?

The Giants should give the keys back to the brilliant mind behind the Nate Solder 4-year $62 million contract.

Gettleman intentionally planted one of the worst left tackles onto his offensive line to make Saquon’s job more difficult, thus, forcing Saquon to play under duress and reach his potential through the crucible of playing behind Nate Solder.

Pressure makes diamonds and Saquon is a diamond while Joe Schoen’s entire 53-man roster is diamondless.

Bring. Back. Dave. Gattleman.
